The 2014 Women’s World Cup starts tomorrow in Sportzentrum Lissfeld in Linz, Austria. It is the second most prestigious table tennis event of the year after the World Table Tennis.

This year it is the first time the event has been held in the country, and also held out of Asia.

The 20 players taking part at the Women’s World Cup qualified through their Continental Cup’s, apart from the current World Champion LI Xiaoxia of China and the wild card player Elizabeta SAMARA of Romania.

Top eight seeds are DING Ning of China (Asian Cup winner), LI Xiaoxia of China, Kasumi ISHIKAWA of Japan (substitution), SEO Hyowon of Korea (substitution), LIU Jia of Austria (Europe Cup winner), LEE Ho Ching of Hong Kong (Asian Cup 5th place), Elizabeta SAMARA, Sayaka HIRANO of Japan (substitution).

Tomorrow in Group 1 will play LI Jiao Of Netherlands (Europe Cup 3rd place), Iveta VACENOVSKA of Czech Republic (Europe Cup 7th place), ZHANG Mo of Canada (North American Cup winner). In Group 2 Georgina POTA of Hungary (Europe Cup 6th place) will meet CHENG I-Ching of Taipei (substitution) and LAY Jiang Fang of Australia (Oceania Cup winner).

WU Jiaduo of Germany (Europe Cup 5th place) is in the Group 3 with JIANG Huajun of Hong Kong (substitution) and Caroline KUMAHARA of Brazil (Latin American Cup winner). HU Melek of Turkey (substitution) is in the group with Germany’s Petrissa SOLJA (Europe Cup 4th place) and Dina MESHREF of Egypt (African Cup winner).
