After seven months of long drought we are back in the venues. The European Youth Top 10 started today in Berlin. The European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) as organiser, the German Table Tennis Federation (DTTB) as host and local club ttc berlin eastside with the great help of the German authorities proudly stands behind the first ETTU event since February.

Cadet tournaments always brings a lot of upsets and Cadet Singles Event at the European Youth Top 10 in Berlins is not the exception to the rule. The opening day at the tournament launched Mia GRIESEL to the top of the standings to delight of the home crowd. Mia came to the tournament at the very last minute, as a reserved player. Due the late call she was not able to have a training last night, but it did not stop her to record three wins in three opening rounds.

She overcame team mates Jele STORTZ 3:2 and last year's silver medalist Annett KAUFMANN, as well as Sophie EARLEY of Ireland 3:2.

It was very late when the results from the COVID 19 test came, so I went straight to bed. It was this morning when I entered the venue for the first time at the tournament. However, it did not stop me. I am feeling good and I enjoy playing in Germany,” said Mia.

Win against Annett KAUFMANN was a big upset.

“I did not expect this. Against Annett it was very important to stay calm. I was very confident and in the last game I force her into errors. She was very nervous. My forehand was very good today,” said GRIESEL.

Anna HURSEY of Wales is also unbeaten. She overcame Dominika WILTSCHKOVA of Slovakia, Julie Van HAUWAERT of Belgium and Bianca Mei ROSU of Romania. Annett KAUFMANN of Germany, Charlotte LUTZ of France and Helena SOMMEROVA of Czech Republic all has one defeat and two wins.
