UMMC defeats Muhlhausen thanks to better point-ratio

TTCLM quarter-finals, Leg 2: UMMC – Muhlhausen 2:3. Fakel Gazprom and Angers also booked their places among the best four teams

 

Russian club UMMC reached 2018/19 TTCLM semi-finals thanks to better point-ratio against Post SV Muhlhausen. Verkhnaya Pyshma’s side won first away game 3:2, but German team responded by the same win in the clash held tonight, February 8th, in the town near Yekaterinburg. As two teams were levelled in terms of matches and sets, the winner was decided according to point-ratio: 388:376 in favour of the 2012 TTCLM runner-up.

 

Daniel HABESOHN was very close to beat twice in a row former world top 10 player, China’s FANG Bo. It was fourth tonight's match, decisive one, when Austrian player led after third set 2:1. But, host responded by two consecutive games to extend this match to the fifth encounter in which Lubomir JANCARIK beat Andrej GACINA in straight games, but it wasn’t enough for Post SV Muhlhausen.

 

Four-time TTCLM winner Fakel Gazprom reached its ninth consecutive TTCLM semi-finals, after two victories against two-time champion AS Pontoise Cergy. Two weeks ago, in France, Russian side won 3:0, while today, February 8th, they beat Pontoise 3:2 on its soil.

 

Orenburg displayed its strong line-up, with two finalists from the recent CBB 2019 Europe Top 16 Cup, Dimitrij OVTCHAROV (gold) and Vladimir SAMSONOV (silver), as well as former world no. 7 from China, YAN An.

 

Mattias FALCK was extended to full distance by China’s YAN An in the opening game, but Dimitrij OVTCHAROV secured semi-final berth to Orenburg, as he defeated Can AKKUZU in straight games. German player continued his winning streak against Mattias FALCK in the fifth encounter, while Vladimir SAMSONOV beat Tristan FLORE. Second point for guests came from AKKUZU who upset former Pontoise’s member Marcos FREITAS.

 

Vaillante Sports Angers will play in the TTCLM semi-finals second time in its history, as they beat SPG Walter Wels twice 3:0 in two weeks.

 

Borussia Dusseldorf booked its place in the semis yesterday, February 7th, defeating Bogoria 3:1.
