Ultimate matches for the knock out stages on the menu on day two in Novi Sad
On the second day of the play at the Tamanneftegas Women's Europe Cup in Novi Sad the ultimate matches in the Group Stage were on the menu. SH-ITB Budaörsi Sport Club and Etival Clairefontaine ASRTT had the day off since they completed their Group match yesterday. SKST Stavoimpex Hodonin was the first to join them in the quarterfinal.
Czech team secured the quarterfinal place after the victory over ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari. Yesterday they overcame Asea Sarises Florinas in straight matches, but today they faced much firmer adversary. The player who caused most problems to the favorites was Romania's Tania PLAIAN. She beat both Natalia PARTYKA and Solomiya BRATEYKO in straight games.
“PLAIAN improved her game and become very dangerous and mature player with complete arsenal of strokes. In addition Italian club has experienced WEI Jian. She is not in the peak of her career, but still she can create a lot of pressure,” said PARTYKA.”the most important thing is that we are in the quarterfinal. We are looking forward the draw from the top position in the group.”

In Group C Croatia's Ivana MALOBABIC was the back-bone of TTC Carinthiawinds Villach success over Alicante TDM. Two wins, over Paula BUENO and Irina ERMAKOVA with addition of the point coming from Anna FENYVESY secured Austria's triumph. Three matches concluded in straight games and the real drama came with the fourth match between Ivana MALOBABIC and Irina ERMAKOVA.
“I have to admire my adversary's tactics. She forced me to work hard for each point. She “killed” my game and made me change the pace in order to save the match,” said MALOBABIC.

In the direct clash for the place in the quarterfinal Novi Sad overcame Italian club ASD Tennistavolo Norbello. After seven appearances in the Europe Cup, hosts finally reached the Round of 8. It was the dramatic match despite the final outcome of the 3:0.
The key moment was the win of Aneta MAKSUTI against Aikaterini TOLIOU in the opening duel of the match. MAKSUTI proved she got very good game for the defensive player.
“It was important for the team to win this duel. We put a lot on that scenario. It is difficult when you know that you have to win, but I fulfilled my task,” said MAKSUTI.
Alina ZAHARIA recovered from two to null in reverse to win the match against Chiara COLANTONI, whilst Tijana JOKIC also had a slow start against Krisztina NAGY.

Saint-Denis Us 93 Tennis De Table moved to the quarterfinal from the top spot in the Group C. After victory over TTC Carinthiawinds Villach on the opening day they beat Alicante TDM to justify their status.
“Spanish side surprised us with the line up, but PAVADE was at the top of the challenge. She plAyed very safe and gave us good start. Those two days of play were good for us and we are ready for the quarterfinal. Our confidence is at the high level,” said MUSTAVAFI.

Whilst the winner of the Group D SKST Stavoimpex Hodonin was waiting the outcome of the draw for the quarterfinal, Asea Sarises Florinas and ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari were playing the decisive match for the knock out phase.
Whether it was the defeat in the morning hours or win in late night for Cagliari, Tania PLAIAN stayed firm to her task. She won four out of four matches today and led her team into the knock out phase.
“We wanted so much to win this one. It is important for the club to reach the knock out phase and I am very happy now. We proved how strong team we are. Despite the defeat in the morning we showed great spirit we cheered each other and we support each other into the victory,” said PLAIAN.
