Already in the qualification stage of the Men's Doubles Event at the LIEBHERR ITTF European Championships in Warsaw we saw the early departure of big stars. The Greek Slovak combination of Panagiotis GIONIS and WANG Yang faced surprising defeat against Arturs REINHOLDS of Latvia and Vallot VAINULA of Estonia. (11:6, 9:11, 8:11, 8:11).

“We play with each other for a long time; we had a preparations in Estonia for a week before the Championships also we play in the same team in the League in Estonia. We know each other very well and have fun playing together and prepare together after a long break,” explained Vallot VAINULA.

After losing the opening game REINHOLDS and VAINULA seized the opportunity.

“I had a bed start. I made a many mistakes, but we were aware from the start that we have a chance. We are very good against the players with the defensive style. Also they did not attack as they know, GIONIS and WANG were very passive,” said REINHOLDS.

From second game wining duo took the control.

“We adapt to their game and it also helped that they underestimated us after weak start of the match,” said VAINULA.
