The combination of Czech’s Tomas POLANSKY and Belarus Aleksandr KHANIN in Cadet Boys Doubles Event at the European Youth Championships in Ostrava proved too strong for the rest of the competition in Europe this year. Young players teamed up this year, beat Darko JORGIC of Slovenia and Nils HOHMEIER  of Germany in the ultimate stage of the event. Nikola GRBIC and Nikola MARINKOVIC of Serbia  and Joe SEYFRIED and Loucas RIGAULT of France won bronze.

New champions prised the game of Germany’s Slovenia’s pairings at the end.
“JORGIC and HOHMEIER played fantastic, but we managed to stay calm even when we were 2:1 in reverse,” said POLANSKY.

In the semi final Darko JORGIC and Nils HOHMEIER  prevailed against Joe SEYFRIED and Loucas RIGAULT of France. Joe SEYFRIED played in the semi final last year with Romain RUIZ but that experience did not help. JORGIC and HOHMEIER dominated and won the encounter 3:1.
“HOHMEIER played fantastic games throughout the tournament. Despite the shaky start we managed to pull out first game, and of course, most important, last set after close encounter. I think that French players could not find any solution against us. We played spin on spin with great success,” said JORGIC.

HOHMEIER added: “We were aggressive. Our tactic was to be active and to attack.”

In other semi final duel we saw winning pace changing sides from set to set.  Aleksandr KHANIN and Tomas POLANSKY won two opening games, Nikola GRBIC and Nikola MARINKOVIC of Serbia recovered to level after being down 8:10, and then established the lead in the decisive game 7:5. And then lost the match, after Czech and Belarus coach called for time out.

“I had to put the ball on the table and to play more on spin,” explained POLANSKY.“But I was not afraid we can lose.”

Cadet Boys Doubles final: Tomas POLANSKY (Czech Republic) and Aleksandr KHANIN (Belarus) – Darko JORGIC (Slovenia) and Nils HOHMEIER  (Germany) 3:2 (5:11, 11:7, 6:11, 11:9, 11:8)
