ETTU’s new Gender equality committee

From September 2020 ETTU will have a gender equality committee . The election of the members will during the European Championships in Warsaw.

“IOC launched the IOC Gender Equality Review project to address the challenges that the sport organisations are facing worldwide while trying to achieve gender equality. In this project we find many initiatives and recommendations that can be implemented in table tennis federations. Based on IOC recommendations we can set up a goal and focus in the areas where we could be doing better ” announced ETTU Athlete Commission Chair Galia DVORAK.

ETTU has to establish strategic mechanisms to increase the pipeline of female candidates for governance roles in general as well as for Executive Board positions and to encourage its member Associations to follow this mechanism for their own use.

In general observations DVORAK summarize:

“Women are underrepresented in all areas of our sport. Despite there is still work to do to achieve equality in the elite as equal payment equal prestige etc among young and leisure players is where we see the biggest gender gap. Working in reducing this gap will also help us in achieving equality among elite players. Gender imbalance is a common problem in all National Associations regardless of how developed table tennis is in the country. If we do not establish an action plan the situation will not correct itself. Fighting for gender equality is a common opportunity for all to grow.”
