Timo BOLL’s farewell with 13th title Nina MITTELHAM reaches her first crown

Timo BOLL had wonderful farewell to German National Championships as he reached his 13th title in the city of Wetzlar in front of 3 200 spectators after convincing 4:0 win against Patrick FRANZISKA. The 37-year-old finished one part of his career in the Rittal Arena 21 year after his very first crown taken in Saarbrucken.

 

“It was more emotional than I expected. I’m not stopping yet but somehow it looks a bit like that. Of course I was highly motivated to create grand farewell here. It was the right place – in front of such a great audience” explained Timo BOLL after huge standing ovation he received during the final ceremony.

 

The 22-year-old Nina MITTELHAM won her very first national crown as she overcame recent 2019 Europe Top 16 Cup champion Petrissa SOLJA in five games. Benedikt DUDA and DANG Qiu are the winners of Men’s Doubles event Nina MITTELHAM and Franziska SCHREINER won Women’s Doubles while Petrissa SOLJA and Patrick FRANZISKA took gold in the Mixed Doubles.

 

Actual world no. 5 Timo BOLL stated earlier that he will continue his career on the international level as well as in the Borussia Dusseldorf jersey.

 

“The ITTF demands more and more from us. To be well placed in the world rankings you have to play so many tournaments. In addition I have many goals with Borussia Dusseldorf… I want to play as long as I enjoy and the body can cope. That may take a few more years”.
