SAMSONOV avenged his defeat in Alicante

CCB Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux

Vladimir SAMSONOV of Belarus suffered by the hands of Ovidiu IONESCU of Romania in the quarterfinal of the European Championships in Alicante but today in the Round of 16 of the CCB Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux he showed no mercy against the same adversary (11:3 12:10 9:11 11:8 11:5).

However the win did not come easy.

“In second game I had 9:5 before he leveled to 10:10 in third I was 7:3 in the lead and I lost…Every game was close. It was the same in Alicante. I was in god shape then like I am now but I guess IONESCU is not at the same level. However I always need some time to get into the game and I am extremely happy I won this encounter. It was heavy adversary for the beginning ” said SAMSONOV.

Barbora BALAZOVA showed no chinks in her armour against Britt EERLAND (9:11 8:11 14:16 8:11).

“We know each other very well so there was no secret about the tactics. For me it was important to change the pace of the game constantly and to stay safe after her long service game ” said BALAZOVA.
