Europe Youth Top 10
The Europe Youth Top 10 starts today in Vila Real for the players under-18 and under-15 years. In three days each player will play 9 matches in their quest for the title at the competition that gathers best young competitors from Europe.
The hosts by regulations has right to give wild card to one player in each category. Tiago LI will represent Portugal In Junior category.
“It will be a very difficult competition and it’s an excellent opportunity for Tiago to play at the highest level. He has already played in some though competitions but this will be one of the hardiest. He just arrived from Hong Kong where he has been practicing and he played at the Taiwan Open. Tiago has been preparing for the season and this is important because the players are just beginning and aren’t usually at their best. He has a long career ahead of him and this event is another step on his learning ” explained Hélder MELIM Tiago LI’s coach
In Junior Boys Event will play: Rares SIPOS and Cristian PLETEA of Romania Irvin BERTRAND of France Matteo MUTTI of Italy Lev KATSMAN of Russia Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK of Austria Jules ROLLAND of France Kay STUMPER of Germany Laurens DEVOS of Belgium and Tiago LI.
“I have been practicing in Hong Kong and played the Taiwan Open competition with a high level players where I reached the round of 32. Here I’ll try to win some games although I’m aware of the level of the players. I already played against Mateo MUTTI of Italy Lev KATSMAN of Russia and Laurens DEVOS of Belgium and won against the first two players two and three years ago ” said LI.
Fernando MALHEIRO Portuguese Team Manager and cadet David BESSA’s Coach explained:
“All the Portuguese players are here with wild cards not by ranking which means that all the other players are stronger but we will try to break that supremacy. We showed a good performance at the European Championship when the boys and girls achieved good results. The cadet’s boys team managed to stay in the main division and girls’ team reach the first division. Some of our players achieved recorded against athletes with better ranking so we expect to win some games. Our team is highly motivated and this event is very important to us. These players still have some years in their age groups.”
Cadet Boys: Maciej KUBIK of Poland Myshaal SABHI of France Mike HOLLO of Germany Adrien RASSENFOSSE of Belgium Simon BELIK of Czech Republic Andrea PUPPO of Italy Arnau PONS of Spain Fabio RAKOTOARIMANANA of France Ivor BAN of Croatia and David BESSA of Portugal.
David BESSA stressed it will be more difficult task comparing to European Youth Championships.
“It will be very difficult to play at this level against the best players in Europe. It will be much more difficult than the European Championship because here we will have nine really hard games. However this event gives the opportunity to learn from the best.”
Luís SOUSA Célia SILVA’s coach is aware how difficult it will be.
“This will be a very hard competition for us we area only here because we are only here as the organizing country. We’ll have nine really difficult games against the best European players. Célia SILVA is a rising player and she can fight some of the players. And that’s the main goal try to evolve and became a more complete player.”
In Junior Girls Event will play Sabina SURJAN of Serbia Anna WERGRZYN of Poland Franziska SCHREINER of Germany Andreea DRAGOMAN of Romania her compatriot Tania PLAIAN Lucie GAUTHIER of France Zdena BLASKOVA of Czech Republic Andrea PAVLOVIC of Croatia Tijana JOKIC of Serbia and host nation representative Celia SILVA.
“It is a really good thing to participate in this event for the first time. I am really looking forward to start playing. The strongest opponents are the Russia’s and the Romania’s players and it will be a good competition. I want to keep playing for the Portuguese National Team at international opens ” said Célia SILVA.
Inês MATOS will compete in Cadet Girls Event.
“My main goal in this event is to gain experience try to fight against the best European players and try to win some games. My first match will be against Elena ZAHARIA from Romania the European champion the strongest player in the competition. Be able to play in this competition is a really big thing for me especially because it is organized in Portugal.”
