OVTCHAROV and EKHOLM one step closer to another gold

Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour India Open

It seems that the winners of the DHS Lausanne Open in Switzerland week earlier Dimitrij OVTCHAROV of Germany and Matilda EKHOLM of Sweden still ride the winning wave at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour India Open. Both reached the ultimate stage of the Singles Event today in new Delhi.

In Men’s Singles Event semifinal Dimitrij OVTCHAROV the top seed won a hard fought seven games encounter (8-11 11-2 9-11 12-10 14-16 11-2 11-8) against Koki NIWA the no.3 seed.

The top seed in the Women’s Singles Event DOO Hoi Kem was beaten by Sweden’s Matilda EKHOLM the no.4 seed. Matilda emerged successful in six games (11-8 11-7 5-11 11-9 8-11 11-3).

She will meet Japan’s Sakura MORI who beat Ng Wing Nam in a full distance seven games duel (13-11 12-10 10-12 9-11 11-8 9-11 11-6). MORI was the no.6 seed NG Wing Nam occupied the no.8 seeded position in the competition.

It is the first time that Sakura Mori has reached an ITTF World Tour Women’s Singles final; for Matilda EKHOLM it her third. In 2013 she was the runner up in Croatia beaten by Korea’s Lee Dasom in the final one year earlier she had won in Morocco when overcoming Spain’s Sara Ramirez in the title deciding contest.
