Egle SADIKOVIC is the new titleholder in women’s singles. She won 4-1 against Tessy GONDERINGER in the final for her first ever national championships title. Sarah de NUTTE and Simone HAAN won bronze. Traian CIOCIU and Mike BAST won the Men’s Doubles title. They overcame Jerome RAISON and Fabien SIMON in the final. Sven HANSEN and Laurent KINTZELE as well as Arlindo DE SOUSA and Fabio SANTOMAURO clinched bronze. Sarah de NUTTE and Tessy GONDERINGER were the best in Women’s Doubles. In the final they succeeded against Vinita SCHLINK and Annick STAMMET. Jill BERNS and Danielle KONSBRUCK and Simone HAAN and Carole HARTMANN were stopped at the penultimate hurdle. 06/03/2011 – John MURPHY and Ashley GIVAN were crowned National Champions in their respective mens and womens singles events in the Butterfly National Senior championships which took place in the Alsaa Sports Complex Dublin over the weekend. In the mens singles final MURPHY the top seed and Irish number 1 overcame the ever-improving Ulsterman Ashley Robinson by 4 games to 1 in a high quality match to claim a historic 4th National Mens Singles title. ROBINSON still only a Junior continued to show off his great promise for the future as he stormed through the tournament in classy fashion. But it wasn’t enough as MURPHY used all his experience to grind out a well deserved win. In the womens singles final Ashley GIVAN defied the odds to clinch a thoroughly deserved victory over seasoned International and Irish Number 1 Amanda Mogey on a 4-1 scoreline. GIVAN still playing at Junior level once again signalled her great promise for the future with this outstanding result. In the under 21 mens singles Paul MCCREERY overcame International Team-mate Gavin MAGUIRE in the final by 3 games to 1 in a cagey encounter. The Ulsterman was in imperious form throughout the day not dropping a set on his way to the final. In the women’s field Monika FUHRER won the trophy. The experienced players Thierry MILLER or Elmira ANTONYAN were not able to win a title although they delivered strong performances. On the way to his second title in a row the top seated MOHLER defeated ex-champion Denis JOSET in the semifinal (4:2) before playing Christian HOTZ (Wil SG) in a new edition of last year’s final. As in Crissier MOHLER who comes from Basel and is currently playing for St. Louis in France won in the sixth set. HOTZ the champion of 2008 was in fact able to win the opening set and he was able to balance to 2:2. “Nicola was able to imposed his rhytm I played very good but at important points Nicola was better” said the defeated HOTZ. MOHLER visibly moved by his victory was delighted by his strong performance and by defending the championship. Mohler also won the title in the men’s doubles and in the mixed with his new partner Rachel MORET. “This weekend was absolutely perfect” said MOHLER who got his first triple in career. In the women’s field Monika FUHRER won her fourth title after 2007 2008 and 2010. The 20 years old who is currently playing for Neuhausen in Switzerland won the final against Rachel MORET even Rachel MORET had two match points.
