The Men’s team sees John MURPHY joining with Paul MCCREERY Ashley ROBINSON and Gavin MAGUIRE while Amanda MOGEY Ashley GIVAN and Edel O’REILLY will compete in the Women’s event. Speaking at the team announcement John MURPHY and Amanda MOGEY said they were delighted with their selection and are eagerly looking forward to the competition. MURPHY who is no stranger to this tournament having attended eight times previously recognises the challenge that lies ahead. “The World Team Championships is the best tournament on the Calendar with over 100 nations taking part. In the men’s we will play in Division 3 as we held our position in this Division in Moscow 2010. It will be tough and our primary goal has to be to consolidate our position in this Division. We have a young squad in both Men and Women which is great for the future but I think it is also a squad that is ready to get results at these Championships”. This is a view shared by Technical Director John O’ DONOGHUE. “The World Championships is our premium event and a wonderful opportunity for the players to play at a top class event and compete against teams from all over the world. I am delighted that we are able to send such a strong young team in both the Ladies and Men’s event. I offer my congratulations on all those selected and look forward to seeing some good results from the championships”. (EWC)

In Junior Boys category in the final rounds Enzo ANGLES lost the battle against Leonardo MUTTI of Italy and clinched silver whilst Alexandre ROBINOT finished third. In Cadet Boys category all three places at the medal podium were booked for French players: Can AKKUZU Roman RUIZ and Alexandre CASSIN. Audrey ZARIF clinched the title in Cadet Girls category. Coach Jacques MOMMESSIN valuates the success. “I am very satisfied with all the results. Our medal record is even better regarding the last year’s Top-10 in Austria. Speaking about junior boy’s team for which I am responsible I am really proud of boys and of their performance last weekend in Buzau. Certainly we would like more to return home with gold but young MUTTI demonstrate that we have to count on him in the future very seriously.” French juniors in 25 contests against the non-French players won 19 and lost 6 (4 against Mutti). “Before the competition we wanted to make as well as last year but without Simon GAUZY and Tristan FLORE we thought the challenge was high. It was not like that after all! Firstly we are very satisfied with Antoine HACHARD. At his first Top-10 he was the only Frenchman who beat all the non-French players. Then we are very satisfied also with Andr
Team GB Short list: 4 home nations with an age range between 18 and 28

The list features players from all 4 home nations and with an age range between 18 and 28 the squad shows a strong future for British table tennis with longevity for both London 2012 and Rio in 2016. With a wealth of international competitions in the first quarter of 2012 it is crucial that each player performs at their highest level if they wish to influence the selectors and make the final cut. Since the original long list was created we have already seen a dramatic upturn in performance with stand out results from the youngest player on the long list Liam PITCHFORD who has defeated Vladmir SAMSANOV and Alexey SMIRNOV ranked 9th and 20th in the world and Andrew BAGGALEY who made it through to the last 16 in the recent World Tour in Hungary. Joanna PARKER: “I have devoted most of my life to playing table tennis I love competing especially for my country. To represent GB in the Olympic Games in my home country would just be a dream come true. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we are lucky to have.” Darius KNIGHT: “For me its everything its the start of my career nothing better than kicking it off in your own back garden. I will be 21 so in table tennis terms that’s quite young as the older players play till about 35-50 depending on how fit you are and if you stay injury free. A chance to show people from the UK how table tennis is played as it’s considered as a low sport.” Andrew BAGGALEY: ” I’m in the best form of my life and I reckon my best year will be from now until my mid thirties.” Men: Andrew BAGGALEY (England) Paul DRINKHALL (England) Darius KNIGHT (England) Liam PITCHFORD (England) Danny REED (England) Gavin RUMGAY (Scotland) Women: NA Liu (Northern Ireland) Naomi OWENS (Wales) Joanna PARKER (England) Kelly SIBLEY (England).
