Last chance for Saarbrucken

The biggest battle is coming from Group B at Verkhnaya Pyshma where Russian champion UMMC expects the 2012 German Cup winner Saarbrucken. There are no secrets between these two clubs the rivals from 2012 MECL semi final (UMMC progressed to the final after very exciting rematch at home). In Round 2 of 2013/14 season at Germany Russian side won 3:0 (9:3 in sets) so Saarbrucken must win this Friday to keep the chances for the next stage. In this group UMMC and Pontoise have 3-1 score Saarbrucken 2-2 and Eslov 0-4. UMMC has complicated its situation losing at home from Pontoise last week but still holds control in its hands. Coach Tatiana KUTERGINA was disappointed with a play of Japanese Jun MIZUTANI who lost both his games (from Marcos FREITAS and WANG Jian Jun): “Two defeats of Jun MIZUTANI are not acceptable. He didn’t arrived in good shape. I hope that we learned the lesson and to show totally different play against Saarbrucken”. In case that UMMC and Pontoise (this Saturday meets at home Eslov) win this weekend they will reached quarter final no matter of Round 6 results (December 20th). French club is clear favorite against Swedes who still has no victory. The 2009 MECL finalist LIEBHERR Ochsenhausen needs almost miracle this Friday at Group A knowing that just win at Orenburg can open the door of quarter final. Russian side the reigning champion already booked its place among the best eight European clubs while German club suffered two 3:0 defeats. If Orenburg wins again RYU Seung Min & Company must overcome Angers in ultimate round better than 3:0 (9:2 in sets). However Ochsenhausen`s president Kristijan PEJINOVIC is emphasizing that his club has nothing to lose in upcoming games. After 3:0 away victory against Walter Wels Werder Bremen returned all power at its hands at Group C. Actual German champion If they beat Hennebont French side will resolved the question of its destiny in last round against Austrian club playing at home. Who could bet before the season that Round 5 match Borussia – Chartres will not have any significance for the placement in Group D?! Ten times European champion lost all three its games while French champion and actual leader of French national league (all 7 wins) Chartres won twice 3:0 (Borussia at home and Niederosterreich away). Round 5 of Men’s European Champions League Group A: Fakel Gazproma – LIEBHERR Ochsenhausen (December 13th 12h20 CET) Group B: UMMC – Saarbrucken (December 13th 15h30 CET); AS Pontoise Cergy – Eslov (December 14th 19h45 CET) Group C: Werder Bremen – Hennebont (December 13th 19h00 CET) Group D: Borussia Dusseldorf – Charters (December 13th 19h00 CET live on LAOLA1.tv)

They beat Saarbrucken at home 3:0 in Round 5 of Group B having 4-1 score while German side (2-3) kept just mathematical chance to progress among the best eight European clubs. Exactly if Pontoise (3-1) overcomes Eslov (0-4) tonight Saarbrucken will go to ETTU Cup. UMMC`s coach Tatiana KUTERGINA composed her line-up totally different than in previous rounds. And it worked excellent. In first clash Alexander SHIBAEV beat Tiago APOLONIA in five sets. Tall Russian was unique UMMC`s player who played well against Pontoise beating on position no. 2 WANG Jian Jun but French side won 3:1. Today SHIBAEV was posted on no.1 and after many upside-downs managed to defeat Portuguese. When Joao MONTEIRO overcame Bastian STEGER guests found their selves in very bad situation. The game took five sets as third one was perhaps decisive: STEGER missed set ball on 10:9 and host led 2:1 in sets. MONTEIRO opened very well ultimate chapter (4:1) but actual ECH bronze medalist leveled on 6:6. Portuguese answered by two points in a row and that was enough for win. Jun MIZUTANI used to be UMMC`s no. 1 but after two defeats against Pontoise coach Tatiana KUTERGINA criticized him saying that he was not in a good shape. Today as no. 3 Japanese beat Slovenian Bojan TOKIC in straight games. No doubt that he was very motivated. Round 5 of Group B: UMMC – Saarbrucken 3:0 Alexander SHIBAEV – Tiago APOLONIA 3:2 (11:9 11:13 11:9 2:11 11:8) Joao MONTEIRO – Bastian STEGER 3:2 (11:4 8:11 12:10 5:11 11:9) Jun MIZUTANI – Bojan TOKIC 3:0 (12:10 11:7 11:5)

Despite the huge tradition of Borussia its lost is not surprise knowing how the things were going on this season but there are no many people expected that Hennebont could so easy beat “The Greens” at Bremen. The quarter finalists from Group D were resolved before this round (Chartres and Niederosterreich) while all three Group C members are still in the game. In ultimate Round 6 on December 20th Hennebont will meet Walter Wels at France. Former European vice-champion Kalinikos KREANGA announced big win of Hennebont defeating CHUANG Chih-Yuan in four sets. Greek turned the match in second set when he reacted better in crucial moments. That brought him 2:0 lead. Next game was very exciting with four very close sets and after many upside-downs Dmitrij PROKOPCOV beat Adrian CRISAN. It could be expect that Romanian reacts better in dramatical moments knowing that he managed to beat in that situation many great players during his career but Czech showed one of his best games in Men`s European Champions League. Constantin CIOTI was the last hope of Werder but he lost from CHEN Chien-An in five games. In ultimate set CIOTI turned from 6:8 to 9:8 but guest took final three points in a row. Borussia and Chartres played without any pressure. Timo BOLL was not in host line-up while French champion showed its best possible trio: GAO Ning Robert GARDOS Par GERELL. Patrick BAUM and Kamal ACHANTA were easily beaten by Robert GARDOS and GAO Ning respectively whilst just young Ricardo WALTHER gave a big fight to Par GERELL. However Swede won in five sets. Chartres has an impressive 3-0 score with third 3:0 win in a row. On the other side Borussia lost all four its games. In last game of Group D Chartres expects the 2008 MECL champion Niederosterreich (December 20th).
