Junior from Croatia clinched the title after superb performance in past three days in France. Alexandre CASSIN of France and his teammate Can AKKUZU clinched silver and bronze. At the lower positions are: Killian ORT of Germany Patryk ZATOWKA of Poland Anton KALLBERG of Sweden Tomislav PUCAR of Croatia Diogo CHEN of Portugal Nandor ECSEKI of Hungary and David REITSPIES of Czech Republic. Bronze medalists from Italy already felt the thrill of standing at the medal rostrum. Three years ago in Austria he won bronze at the Cadets Top 10. “In the opening match against PUCAR I had 3:0 advantage but he recovered to level the match. It was very close and at 9:9 I had lucky ball. It was much easier in the match against REITSPIES. I beat him 4:1 ” explained 17-year-old ZELJKO. The pendulum swung in the duel against ZATOWKA. “I was in the lead against Patryk 3:1 but I lost. After that KALLBERG left me without chances at the beginning of our duel. He had 2:0 but I kept fighting. I saved match ball in fourth game in sixth I had yellow card lost that game but it worked in my favor. Swede played less aggressive after that so I won.” The matches against hosts were the most difficult. “I did not expect much from this tournament. The competition was fierce. French players were favorites. I just played point for point. However I think that CASSIN was not on top of his game. His performance was far from the one from European Championships. Against Diogo I was once again in reverse. I was 1:3 down before I recovered. At the final stage of the match Digo lost his focus and I seized the opportunity” Against AKKUZU Filip played last match at the tournament. It was direct clash for gold. “There were lot of combinations before the start of the round. At that point top 5 positions were open but I did not think about the math. I just played and succeeded.” Filip is the member of Croatia’s team for the forthcoming Junior World Championships. Lea started the tournament under pressure. “Due the withdrawal of Chantal MANTZ organizers were forced to change the playing order. I was ready to play against Natalia BAJOR but at the last moment it was changed. I played against Pauline CHASSELIN in the first round. CHASSELIN was the player who beat me in the second round of the Singles Event at the European Youth Championships so it was not very good match to start the competition. However I beat her ” said RAKOVAC. Against WAN Yuan of Germany Lea shined. “After the match WAN told me that I played mistake-free game against her. She was good but I dominated all the time ” said Lea.”Hardest matches were against Natalia BAJOR and Ekaterina GUSEVA. Against Audrey ZARIF I was very tired.” At the beginning of the season Lea moved from Croatia to SVS Strock. “I am so happy there. The conditions are perfect. This was the best thing that could happen to me. The practice is supervised and conducted by experts. Coaches doctors physiotherapists they are all involved in our work. We all have programs made to fit our individual needs and skills. Our flat is close to the Werner SCHLAGER Academy and that is very important for our afternoon rest. We have everything ” said Lea. And the results follow. “I finally won gold this year at the European Youth Championships after few silver and bronze medals. It was in in Mixed Doubles. I look that video over and over. This tournament had exhausting start for Patryk ZATOWKA but today he spent little less time in playing box. “First day was very hard. I played 21 games. All my matches concluded in seven games. The strangest of all was the match against Diogo CHEN. I was 0:3 down before I recovered to win. It never happened before for me. Against Tomislav PUCAR I was 3:0 up before I lost. He really rose his game to another level after third game ” explained ZATOWKA. Todays encounters brought little less stress. “Against David REITSPIES I played very well but against Alexandre CASSIN it was different story. I was not at the top of my game. Pauline played against WAN Yuan recently at the German Open. “I was aware how she play so it was easer to prepare the tactics. Against Tin Tin HO I had not played since mini cadets days so I was not sure what to expect. “ Natalia BAJOR also overcame German representative as well as Laura PFEFER in the first round of the day. “I feel good here and I am happy with my game.
