This weekend Luxembourg Italy Croatia and Belgium host the Groups in the first stage of the ETTU Cup Men in 2016/17 season. The opening stage tournament gathers 16 clubs from 10 countries. Two top ranked clubs from each group will progress to the next round. DT Diddeleng from Luxembourg will host Romania’s CS Mioveni Slovakia’s SK Vydrany and Spanish C.T.T. C.E.R L’escala. In Group B will play host Italian A.S.D. Marcozzi Cagliari Turkey’s Istanbul BBSK Spanish G.D. Toledos and Louxembourg’s DT Recken. In Group C Croatia’s STK Starr Varazdin will host Belgium’s TTC Sokah Hoboken Turkey’s Türk Telekom Ankara Spor and Portugal’s GDCS Juncal. In Group D Belgium’s TT Vedrinamur awaits players from Spanish Colina Clinic Burgos Scotland’s Knightswood Table Tennis and Turkey’s Sistem Reklam S.C. Rio Paralympics: BRUCHLE and SCHMIDBERGER set up semi-final clash with Brazil

Croatian player who reached second round of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games won all her games in the last two and half years Sandra PAOVIC from Croatia again goes down in history becoming a Women`s Class 6 Paralympic champion after comfortable victory against Steffi GREBE from Germany – 3:0 (11:2 11:7 11:4). Eight years ago PAOVIC reached second round of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games but after traffic accident in 2009 she managed to recover during a long struggle and start her new career. She is now actual both World and European champion winning all her matches in last two and half years. Maryna LYTOVCHENKO defeated Antonina HODZYNSKA in all-Ukrainian bronze medal contest. Turkish player Abdullah OZTURK recorded his best achievement so far in his career reaching final of Men`s Class 4 Natalia KOSMINA from Ukraine won gold medal in the Women`s Class 11 of the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games as she beat Poland`s Krystyna SIEMIENICKA. Both Natalia PARTYKA and Kelly VAN ZON will defend their titles in the final matches of their classes. Men`s Class 1 Rob DAVIES from Great Britain and Korean JOO Young Dae will play for gold medal. DAVIES beat Hungarian Endre MAJOR in four games while JOO was better than his compatriot Kiwon NAM after five sets. Men`s Class 2 Four Old Continent`s players reached the semi-final of the Men`s Class 2 Event. Konstantin CHERNOV and Sadi ISMAILOV from Russia runners-up of Men`s Doubles Event Favorite player of host audience Viktoria PAVLOVICH from Belarus and Russian Grigory VLASOV are the runners-up of the singles events at the 2016 ITTF World Tour Belarus Open (Challenge) concluded today in Minsk. Two times individual women`s champion of Europe lost to 19-year old Saki SHIBATA from Japan 4:2 although she had advantage after first three sets while VLASOV was defeated by top seeded Korean JANG Woojin who managed to recover from 0:3 to 4:3. Actual World no. 55 PAVLOVICH played 13 games in total in just few hours bearing in mind her semi-final victory against Yuka ISHIGAKI from Japan in seven sets. SHIBATA who recently jumped 57 places on the ITTF World ranking list (from 132 to 75) upset her compatriot top seeded Hitomi SATO (World no. 23). “I’m glad to have won my 1st adult title. The match was lengthy with the last set being especially tough” stated Saki SHIBATA. World no. 72 VLASOV played one of his best tournaments so far showing his strength in the semi-final clash against Japanese CHO Eonrae – 4:0 (11:8 11:9 11:7 11:5). He easily won first three games in final match but JANG responded sharply winning four sets in a row. “This is my first world tournament title and I’m very happy. The final match turned out to be difficult since I was getting used to the opponent for at least 3 sets but then was able to choose the right tactics and win the match. I really enjoyed the tournament – it was very well organized – and next year I plan to come back to Belarus” emphasized JANG Woojin. ETTU General Secretary SCRUTON visited Minsk
ETTU Secretary General Richard SCRUTON visited Minsk to inspect the facilities for organizing official international tournaments. While SCRUTON was there he met Minister of sport and tourism Alexander SHAMKO and BTTF President and Minister of Finance Vladimir AMARIN. They visited several sports complexes which have been approved for hosting top European tournaments. Alexander SHAMKO has assured Secretary General Richard SCRUTON that he will offer full assistance in organizing the tournaments.

My Hills International Trade Center Asia-Europe All Stars Challenge 2016 Asia won the My Hills International Trade Center Asia-Europe All Stars Challenge 2016. The team composed of China’s FAN Zhendong Taipei’s CHUANG Chih-Yuan Hong Kong’s WONG Chun Ting (HKG) Singapore’s GAO Ning and Korea’s JOO Saehyuk won 6:4 (4:1 and 2:3) on aggregate in the Chinese city of Dongguan. Today they lost the second leg against Vladimir SAMSONOV of Belarus Tiago APOLONIA of Portugal Andrej GACINA of Croatia Alexander SHIBAEV of Russia and CHEN Weixing of Austria. The only player who suffered defeat in Asia’s team yesterday was WONG Chun Ting. He lost his encounter against Russia’s Alexander SHIBAEV at the opening and he was once again first on the line of duty this morning. On the opposite side was CHEN Weixing of Austria who went full distance against GAO Ning day earlier before he lost. WONG was the first to made advantage at 5:3 but CHEN recovered to take the lead- 7:5. WONG leveled and until the end of the game both players failed to make a wider gap. WONG won by narrow margin 12:10. In the second game WONG was always one step behind – 6:5 9:6. At 9:8 CHEN called for time out. On his return to the table it was 10:8 and after net ball he closed the game at 11:8. In the same pace Austria’s player continued in the third game. He played point by point before he made a break at 5:4 and won the set at 11:5. In the fourth game for a first time after previous two games WONG made a lead at 6:5 and he pushed it into the decider in the great style. In fifth with the 6:6 at the score board once again both players were looking for the chance to make a break. CHEN came to the finish line first by narrow margin 11:9. Singapore’s GAO Ning beat CHEN yesterday whilst Croatia’s Andrej GACINA suffered by the hands of Korea’s JOO Saehyuk. Today it seemed the tables will turn from the beginning. GACINA was in the control from the very beginning of the match. He won the opening game by 11:6 and continued to go in winning pace in the next one. After 4:0 in third game GAO recovered and leveled at 6:6 to won that game at 11:9. Another match was pushed into the decider and GACINA had the better start of it. He had advantage at 4:1 7:5 but after 7:7 GAO took the lead. At 9:8 for GAO two net balls launched the audience from their seats and GACINA nullified the result. The pressure hit the roof as GAO reached the first match ball and converted into the victory. Portugal’s Tiago APOLONIA needed one game to settle into the rhythm against Taipei’s CHUANG Chih-Yuan. He lost opening game 8:11 but after that he started to dominate – 11:8 and 11:6. In the fourth game with 4:0 and soon 8:1 he was in the driving seat. The great gap gave him space for some risky show points and he certainly enjoyed the game as well as the fully packed audience in the hall. APOLONIA left only three points to his adversary in the closing game. The long awaited duel between two no. one players from both teams China’s FAN Zhendong and Belarus Vladimir SAMSONOV did not brought great suspense at the beginning. The two opening games concluded in favor of better ranked player in express way. The real game started in third part. From 2:2 to 5:5 no one could made a break but then FAN took off once again to seal the match in the great style. Asia was on winning track.
