Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Platinum China Open At the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Platinum China Open the top three players in the world MA Long FAN Zhendong and XU Xin did not turn up for their round of 16 matches on 23 June 2017 which resulted in the trio forfeiting their matches. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has received a preliminary statement from the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) and a public apology from the Chinese Table Tennis Team. In the coming days the ITTF has requested a detailed report from the CTTA and also from the ITTF officials on site outlining in more detail as to why the three players failed to turn up for their round of 16 matches. The ITTF World Tour is one of ITTF’s most prestigious products with millions of fans and countless partners following around the globe with anticipation to watch the world’s best players in action. For this reason the ITTF is taking this matter extremely seriously as this has damaged the image and the integrity of table tennis globally. Right now all potential sanctions are on the table and the ITTF will continue its investigation before any decisions are made. The ITTF will also work closely with its Athletes’ Commission to try and get a better understanding as to why this incident happened and provide education and guidance to the players to ensure such an incident does not happen again in the future. 2017 Asia-Europe Challenge will be held in late October
China to host clash of two strongest table tennis continents ETTU and ATTU agreed on the 2017 Asia-Europe Challenge dates: Sunday 29th to Monday 30th October in China (city to be confirmed). It will be 13th edition of this traditional event and Asia leads 9:3. Last year in the Chinese city of Dongguan Asia won 6:4 led by FAN Zhendong. Two years ago European team went down in history having its first ever victory on Asian soil 6:4. Zhangjiagang China. World and Olympic champion MA Long won both his encounters but his side was beaten 6:4 by European team. Vladimir SAMSONOV Marcos FREITAS Robert GARDOS Bastian STEGER and Andrej GACINA played for the winning side coached by Richard PRAUSE. Europe has two more wins. First one (6:5) was held in Istanbul in 2009 and second (6:4) one in La Roche-sur-Yon in 2012.

We will be working with our friends at CTTA to investigate this serious matter to work out our course of action. This kind of behaviour is wrong and we are strongly against it. We require the sports teams & athletes to be always put patriotism & collectivism as the first priority at all times having a strong ideology strict discipline and sports level is equally important. Gold for Walbrzych and Kazan
European Universities Table Tennis Championship in Olomouc The Team’s Event at the European Universities Table Tennis Championship in Olomouc concluded. The Angelus Silesius State School of Walbrzych from Poland clinched the title in Women category gold medal will travel to Kazan Innovative University from Russia. Winning teams justified their rankings – both were top seeds . They both didn´t lose any match in the tournament and well deservedly celebrated the gold. Table tennis from Technical University of Ostrava achieved big success. They advanced to the final in which they lost after a big battle against the big favorite of the tournament from Walbrzych. The men from Technical University of Ostrava were the best among Czech university teams. Ostrava composed of Ondrej BAJGER Michal BENES Roman REZETKA gained silver medal and in comparison to previous academic championship they improved by four places. “We did not expect easy victory “ admitted Michal BENES after the semifinal match. “After an embarrassed beginning we gradually got calmer. Mainly Ondra played excellent. The final will be hard. Poles from Walbrzych are really great. We played against them last year at the Universiade in Zagreb. We lost 0:3 had not many chances and also they played without FERTIKOWSKY. The Polish team is surely the favorite of the final match. We will fight and we will see if it´s enough“ adds Michal BENES. In the second semifinal athletes from Polish Superleague FLORAS CHODORSKI and FERIKOWSKI encountered with strong team from Magnitogorsk whose star is GERASSIMENKO. This duel was called as final before final by some participants. But the result finished clearly in favor of The Angelus Silesius State School of Walbrzych. In the final match the players from Technical University of Ostrava kept up bravely with the favorite from Walbrzych. After great performance of Ondrej BAJGER who gained two points in the decisive match Pawel FERTIKOWSKI beat Michal BENES to secure tight victory of The Angelus Silesius State School of Walbrzych. “It was enormously hard match. Czech boys put us under severe pressure. We beat them easily 3:0 at the Universiade one year ago. Today our team was stronger than in Zagreb and still it was a big battle. Igor Heller appointed honorary member Dutch Table Tennis Association
At meeting of the Board this month Igor Heller was appointed honorary member of the NTTB (Dutch Table Tennis Association). The nomination for the membership by the Executive Committee was done of the basis of Igor’s national and international merits for the table tennis sport during many many years. A summary of all the activities that Igor Heller participated in we’re named during the ceremony. In 1985 Igor started in Utrecht as member of the Regional Congress for the the youth. Since 1987 he has been head of the National Youth Ranking list and licenses and since that time he has been bond representative during many national tournaments. As of 1994 Igor is secretary of the Rules Committee in the Netherlands. Besides this committee he is also part of the Education Testing Committee and the Committee match sport. Finally Igor is tournament director and member of Congress for the region ‘Midden’. Internationally Igor has been active for the ETTU since 2000. First as member of the Ranking Committee and as of 2008 as Chairman. Besides that he is member of the jury during the most of the European tournaments. In the ITTF Igor is member of the Rules Committee. The pin for honorary member was awarded by the chairman of the Executive Committee in the presence of Igor’s parents and brother. HELLER also holds a Badge of Honor of ETTU since 2014.
East China University TT club won the 25th International Youth Cup
The 25th edition of the international Youthcup took place in Hasselt (Belgium). About 540 players from 11 countries faced each other during the three day long table-tennis festival. For this jubilee edition two clubs where invited from the world leading table-tennis country – China. Players and coaches from the “East China University of Science and Technology tt- Club” and the “Ouyu sport club Zhongshan China Wu Bin” were on duty. It was a great opportunity for the European youngsters to measure up with their overseas challengers. In the teams event East China University dominated in cadets and juniors events both for girls and boys. In the category boys born in 2006 or later the Swedish youngsters from Angby overcame their Chinese opponents from Ouyu TT club in the final. In the girls event Yuhan XU (cadet grils) and Xinyi Lu (junior girls) took the gold medal. A remarkable effort in cadets boys singles came from Belgian’s Louis LAFFINEUR who’s beaten two players from the East China University team YUN Wang in round one and YU Zhang in semi’s on his road to the final only to be stopped by China’s dangerously attacking defender SHICHUN Geng. Major upset in the junior boys singles event where created by the Suisse player Pelz PEKKA from Neuheusen. He overcome the Chinese hegemony. On the road to the final he was better then Belgium’s promising youngster Romain GASPAR in quarter final Dutch Pim van SCHAIK in semi’s and in a thrilling final RENUI Xu from East China University. All these team and individual successes lead to East China University winning the 25th edition of the International Youthcup. More than 2000 participants in Helsingborg
European Veterans Championships 2017 In one week starting Monday the 26th of June the city of Helsingborg in the south of Sweden will be swarmed with table tennis players from all over Europe. The European Veteran Championships that will be held between the 26th of June and the 1st of July attracts over 2100 participants 500 companions and 250 volunteers. Amongst the many Swedish participants (more than 340 players from the host nation) you can find local hopes in Anita ANDERSSON and Jonny AKESSON the latter had as a cadet and junior great success in the Youth European Championships claiming multiple golds in both team and doubles. Who did AKESSON play with you might wonder? No less than the great Jan-Ove WALDNER! Will Åkesson have the same success as he did some 35-40 years ago? “After several years of preparation we are now finally here and we are ready to greet all our guests. We have experience organising tournaments and events here in Helsingborg since before. European Universities Championship in Olomouc For the second time in history the Czech Republic hosts the European Universities Table Tennis Championship. The premiere took place in 2007 in Ostrava now the venue is the Olomouc Sports Hall of Palacký University and the date is 20th to 25th June. Olomouc will play university students from all corners of Europe. The entries has been eventually closed at twenty men´s and twelve women´s teams. “I am very pleased by the interest shown from Universities across the whole Europe. In the men´s category we even had to reject few contestants“ said Vít RATAJSKÝ Chairman of the Commission of Table Tennis of the Czech Association of University Sports (ČAUS) unsuccessfully hiding his satisfaction over the number of participants. The biggest foreign team is coming from Poland where the university sport and table tennis in particular is extremely popular.
