National Championships of Slovenia Darko JORGIC and Alex GALIC managed to defend their titles in the National Championships of Slovenia held in the city of Otocec. JORGIC beat Deni KOZUL in six games of the Men`s Singles final clash whilst GALIC prevailed against Katarina STRAZAR in straight sets. Individual champions celebrated twice at the 27th national championships as they won gold in Doubles events JORGIC with Peter HRIBAR and GALIC with Nina ZUPANCIC. National Championships of Croatia Andrej GACINA and Petra PETEK are the single`s winners at the National Championships of Croatia held in the city of Sveti Martin. Men`s Singles top seed GACINA player of Russian club UMMC won all his matches till the final in straight games but he lifted the trophy without playing final encounter as his opponent Tomislav PUCAR was forced to withdraw due to injury. „I feel sorry because of this situation and I wish him (PUCAR) to have a fast recovery and comeback“ stated Andrej GACINA about PUCAR who suffered an injury in the final of Men`s Doubles event. GACINA took his first title after three years (in last two he didn`t participate). Last year`s champion Frane KOJIC was beaten by PUCAR in straight games of the semi-final. Regarding Women`s Singles Petra PETEK repeated her achievement from 2016. Like two years ago in Varazdin she won two gold medals taking also Women`s Doubles crown together with Ivana MALOBABIC. Apprentice Vladimir SEMIPEADNII Vladislav URSU in a beautiful duel was able to outplay Andrei PUTUNTICA and for the first time in his career to become the champion. The second place in the championship was occupied by Andrij PUTUNTICA. In the third place Veniamin DUBROVIN from the town of Beltsy. First title for STANKEVICIUS and PRIEDZIUTE
Lithuanian National Championships Three days of Lithuanian National Championships held in Lithuania capital Vilnius brought a lot of surprises. The winner of the Lithuanian National Table Tennis Championships for the first time became Medardas STANKEVICIUS (coachV. STANKEVICIUS) and Ingrida PRIEDZIUTE (coach VELICKA). PREIDZIUTE secured place in finals when winning against BASKUTYTĖ in the semi-finals. In finals she met with fifteen years old RILISKYTE (coach. PRUSIENE) who after the persistent battle with the result 4:3 (11: 9 12:10 5:11 8:11 11:13 11: 6 11: 9) had to recognize the advantage of the PREIDZIUTE. In the quarterfinals STUCKYTE who was the favorite in women’s competitions suffered an injury in the third set and could not continue competitions in this way sending BASKUTYTE to the semifinals. Four times national champion Udra did not reach finals too. In the quarterfinals after a very tense battle with the result 3: 4 (11: 5 4:11 11: 6 11: 7 7:11 9:11 9:11) he lost for Vilkas who met in the semifinals with Stankevicius. In the second half of semifinals the audience was surprised by the player LESIV who with result 4: 2 (11: 7 6:11 11: 6 8:11 11: 8 11: 8) beat one of the favorites Mikutis. In the final duel STANKEVICIUS beat LESIV with a score of 4:1 (11: 5 11: 6 11: 8 10:12 11: 7). VENCKUTE with BASKUTYTE in the final with result of 3:1 defeated RASIMAVICIENE with PREIDZIUTE and became the winners of the women’s doubles. The winners of the man doubles were brothers Arnoldas and Tonetas DOMEIKA who defeated brothers Alfredas and Manfredas UDRA with the result 3:2.
