Anna HURSEY beat European champion ZAHARIA
European Top 10 in Vila Real In The Cadet Girls Event at the European Top 10 in Vila Real in Portugal after first day of play Elizabet ABRAAMIAN of Russia and Prithika PAVADE of France recorded all three wins. Surprisingly European champion in Cadet Singles Event Elena ZAHARIA of Romania suffered by the hands of Wales’ Anna HURSEY. Anna was seeded at the position no. 9 but managed to create a huge upset by beating ZAHARIA no. one seed. However at the end of the day it was the only win for Anna who lost against Kornelija RILISKYTE of Lithuania and Elizabet ABRAAMIAN. “I like Elena ZAHARIA’S style. I just think that I played very well today. The last time we played I lost very close. So today I just tried my best. I don’t have much pressure to be on a certain position on this or any tournament I just want to try my best and see where it will lead me.Hopefully as I get older and stronger I’ll get better. Since I still have three years left on Cadets I hope to be on the top 3 or even on top 1 in this category ” said Anna HURSEY. Her coach Stephen JENKINS added: “We follow a match-by-match strategy so that we can focus her on winning her game. Only after a game we talk about the next opponent. It’s not only the ranking that matters a lot of nr.1 on Seniors weren’t on Cadets. Anna is doing very well and of course we hope that she will become nr.1 but the performance is not the main thing the commitment is very important and we’re very happy with hers.” Elizabet ABRAAMIAN no two seed beat her compatriot Arina SLAUTINA in straight games before she overcame Germany’s Sophia KLEE by same margin.
