KONSTANTINOPOULOS and TOLIOU defends their titles in Greece
Konstantinos KONSTANTINOPOULOS in Men’s and Katerina TOLIOU in Women’s Event defended their titles in the singles at the Greek National Championship which was organized successfully in Chania Crete. The 25 year old player of Panathinaikos beat in the great final two times European Junior Champion Giannis SGOUROPOULOS of Olympiakos with 4-2 and repated last year’s success in Athens. The 24 year old athlete of DAO Tavros really dominated having celebrated her 3rd gold medal in the event without losing the game! In the final she overcame Dimitra-THOMAIDA TSEKOURA of Foinikas Piraeus. TOLIOU was also the winner of the Women’s Doubles with her teammate Konstantina PARIDI of Olympiakos. Tasos RINIOTIS and George STAMATOUROS of Olympiacos took the gold medal in Men’s Doubles Event. The beautiful indoor gym of Kladissou experienced an unprecedented image with the top event and helped the athletes unfold their skills and offer the fans a beautiful sight and thrills. In the final stage of the National Championship 59 athletes took part. 32 men and 18 women played while in doubles events there were 13 pairs in men and 9 in women. In Men’s Event there were no big upsets but we saw quite unexpected results in Women’s. Besides TSEKOURA who played in two finals KORDOUTI won two medals and TERPOU missed a medal in singles when she was 3-0 game behind of No. 1 favorite CHRISTOFORIKI. It was third consecutive gold for CARVALHO and his fourth in total (2014 2017 2018 2019) while home player SANTOS won her very first title. Timo BOLL’s farewell with 13th title Nina MITTELHAM reaches her first crown
National Championships – Germany Timo BOLL had wonderful farewell to German National Championships as he reached his 13th title in the city of Wetzlar in front of 3 200 spectators after convincing 4:0 win against Patrick FRANZISKA. The 37-year-old finished one part of his career in the Rittal Arena 21 year after his very first crown taken in Saarbrucken. “It was more emotional than I expected. I’m not stopping yet but somehow it looks a bit like that. Of course I was highly motivated to create grand farewell here. It was the right place – in front of such a great audience” explained Timo BOLL after huge standing ovation he received during the final ceremony. The 22-year-old Nina MITTELHAM won her very first national crown as she overcame recent 2019 Europe Top 16 Cup champion Petrissa SOLJA in five games. Benedikt DUDA and DANG Qiu are the winners of Men’s Doubles event Nina MITTELHAM and Franziska SCHREINER won Women’s Doubles while Petrissa SOLJA and Patrick FRANZISKA took gold in the Mixed Doubles. Actual world no. 5 Timo BOLL stated earlier that he will continue his career on the international level as well as in the Borussia Dusseldorf jersey. “The ITTF demands more and more from us. To be well placed in the world rankings you have to play so many tournaments. In addition I have many goals with Borussia Dusseldorf… I want to play as long as I enjoy and the body can cope. That may take a few more years”. In Italy Giorgia PICCOLIN won three titles
The Italian Championships were organized for the first time in the best way in Table Tennis Center “Maso della Pieve” of the city of Bolzano. In Men’s Singles Leonardo MUTTI 23 years old after the final match of last year won the tournament for the second time (the first was in 2015). In the deciding challenge he beat in four straight games his younger brother Matteo MUTTI 18 years old who played the first final (in 2018 he was semifinalist). Mihai BOBOCICA the six times champion and Daniele PINTO at his debut on the national podium won the bronze medal. In Women’s Singles Giorgia PICCOLIN became champion for the second time in her career confirming the win of 2018. She defeated in six games Le Thi Hong LOAN. Veronica MOSCONI and Tan Wenling MONFARDINI were placed third. In Men’s Doubles Mihai BOBOCICA and Niagol STOYANOV doubled the title which occurred in 2013. They accounted for Daniele PINTO and Antonino AMATO in three games while Paolo BISI and Marco RECH DALDOSSO and Leonardo and Matteo MUTTI shared the third step of the podium. In Women’s Doubles Debora VIVARELLI and Giorgia PICCOLIN overcame in three games Veronica MOSCONI and Giulia CAVALLI. The couple mother-daughter formed by Tan Wenling and Gaia MONFARDINI and Chiara COLANTONI and Le Thi Hong LOAN settled for third place. In Mixed Doubles the new champions are Niagol STOYANOV and Giorgia PICCOLIN who got better of Paolo BISI and Debora VIVARELLI in three games. Bronze medalists were Leonardo MUTTI and Veronica MOSCONI and Antonino AMATO anche Nicole ARLIA only 13 years old. It was a triumphal edition for Giorgia Piccolin who won three titles in her birth city of Bolzano.

PITCHFORD won his fifth career men’s singles title and TSAPTSINOS her first women’s singles trophy
PG Mutual National Championships Liam PITCHFORD won his fifth career men’s singles title and Maria TSAPTSINOS her first women’s singles trophy at the PG Mutual National Championships. PITCHFORD defeated his Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning doubles partner Paul DRINKHALL 4-0 (11-6 11-4 12-10 13-11) in Nottingham the pair having earlier combined to overcome England team-mates Sam WALKER & David MCBEATH 3-0 (11-8 11-6 11-5) to win the men’s doubles for a sixth time. Tsaptsinos upset top seed and fellow Commonwealth Games medallist Tin-Tin HO in the women’s singles final emerging victorious by a 4-2 (11-5 13-11 11-13 7-11 11-5 11-5) scoreline. TSAPTSINOS & HO had earlier come from 2-0 down to beat Denise PAYET & Emily BOLTON 3-2 (8-11 8-11 11-3 11-5 11-5) to win the women’s doubles crown. The Mixed Doubles was won by HO & Josh BENNETT beating Alim HIRJI & Emily BOLTON 3-1 (11-4 8-11 11-5 11-5) in the final. HO and Tom JARVIS – the Team GB reserve at the Rio Olympics – were the women’s and men’s under-21 singles champions.
