Vladimir SAMSONOV reached the semi final of the Men’s Singles Event at the Seamaster 2019 ITTF Challenge Plus Portugal Open. Belarusian suffered by the hands of the Chinese top seed LIN Gaoyuan in a spectacular affair. Despite holding a lead by the close of game three Vladi couldn’t quite find the finishing touch as LIN Gaoyuan took his game up another notch sealing the win by a 4-2 margin (11-7 11-13 8-11 11-9 11-8 11-7). China’s LIN Gaoyuan and LIU Shiwen the top seeds beat Slovakia’s Lubomir PISTEJ and Tatiana KUKULKOVA the no.2 seeds in three straight games (11-8 11-6 11-4) to clinch the crown in Mixed Doubles Event. LIN Gaoyuan and LIU Shiwen add to the success enjoyed last year on the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour. On home soil in Shenzhen Lin Gaoyuan won in partnership with CHEN Xingtong; later in the year LIU Shiwen struck gold when she joined forces with XU Xin in Linz. The winner in both 2017 and 2018 in Belgium Japan’s Shunsuke TOGAMI emerged victorious in the under 21 men’s singles final; he beat China’s XIANG Peng in three straight games (12-10 12-10 11-7). The women’s singles runner up on the 2014 ITTF World Tour in Argentina when beaten in the final by colleague HE Zhoujia China’s FAN Siqi resisted a brave recovery by Romania’s Adina DIACONU to clinch the under 21 women’s singles title (11-8 12-10 2-11 8-11 11-9).
Bidding is open for cities to host the ITTF’s Headquarters Training Centre and High Performance & Development base
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is receiving bids from cities keen to grasp this unique opportunity to become the global ‘Home of Table Tennis’ including the ITTF’s future Headquarters Training Centre and High Performance & Development base. Zoran PRIMORAC seeks improvement for semi-final clash with Borussia
UMMC coach comments 2018/19 TTCLM quarter-finals Russian club UMMC 2011/12 runner-up of TTCLM managed to survive in the exciting second leg of the quarter-finals against German side Post SV Muhlahausen but their coaching staff is aware that the team should improve its shape in order to be competitive against reigning champion Borussia Dusseldorf. UMMC won first quarter-final leg in Germany 3:2 but Muhlhausen responded by the same victory in the Russian city of Verkhnaya Pyshma last weekend. The winner was decided according point-ratio (5:5 matches 20:20 sets 388:376 points). “The match with Muhlhausen was very dramatic. We started it well: FANG Bo won 3-0 Andrej GACINA played very hard – two match points” explained UMMC coach Zoran PRIMORAC. “Then we gave up a little and psychologically it was already very hard. At the same time I saw that the German team was getting better. IONESCU was very good HABESOHN just brilliantly played and probably it was one of his best matches. FANG Bo too was the playmaker. He was able to show character bravo to him! However you know you do not need such dramatic matches. You need to play hard right away in order not to count the points afterwards. Yes we were lucky – we reached the semi-finals but Borussia is ahead. We must prepare very well such mistakes are not allowed in the semi-finals”. Semi-final games will be held on March 7th in Russia and March 21st in Dusseldorf. Borussia eliminated Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki with two 3:1 victories.

Invitation to umpire at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
The ITTF Umpires and Referees Committee invites national associations to nominate Blue Badge International Umpires to officiate at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Staged in the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium play commences on Sunday 23rd August and concludes on Sunday 6th September. A national association may submit a maximum of two nominations of whom one must be female; experience of officiating at recent Para tournaments is required. It is an open invitation thus many umpires nominated may not be selected. Selection will be based on past performance (the number of Meets with a minimum of 80 per cent ratio of Meets in the past three years); in addition continental quota and gender equity will also be considered. Preference will be given to umpires who did not participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic or Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The closing date for nominations is Monday 11th March 2019; the names of umpires selected will be announced later in the year in May. Late submissions will not be considered. ECLW quarter-finals Leg 2: Linz AG Froschberg – Metz TT 3:2 (1st leg 3:2) Third time in last four years Linz AG Froschberg reached ECLW semi-finals after win over Metz TT. Second quarter-final leg held today (Feb 10) in Linz was extended to full distance but once again two-time ECLW champion beat actual ETTU Cup winner 3:2. Hong Kong’s SOO Wai Yam Minnie won decisive fifth encounter in both legs. Two weeks ago 20-year-old beat Adina DIACONU while today she prevailed against Carole GRUNDISCH. French club managed to extend the clash to the fifth game thanks to DING Yaping who defeated both SOO Wai Yam Minnie and Sofia POLCANOVA. The best ranked European player on the ITTF World ranking list POLCANOVA (world no. 17) beat Carole GRUNDISCH in the opener. Second leg of the ETTU Women’s Cup quarterfinal Tonight three more clubs progressed to the semi final of the Women’s ETTU Cup. After CP Lyssois Lille Métropole their place in the best four booked: SH-ITB Budaörsi 2i Sport Club ALCL TT Grand-Quevilly and UCAM Cartagena. Easier than in opening leg SH-ITB Budaörsi 2i Sport Club overcame TTC Kazan in Russia. Antonina SAVELYEVA was the only player who scored for hosts. As two teams were levelled in terms of matches and sets the winner was decided according to point-ratio: 388:376 in favour of the 2012 TTCLM runner-up. Daniel HABESOHN was very close to beat twice in a row former world top 10 player China’s FANG Bo. It was fourth tonight’s match decisive one when Austrian player led after third set 2:1.
