Nina GUO ZHENG Leads French Triumph in Tours – Under 19 Girls’ Title Decided on Head-to-Head

Nina GUO ZHENG of France emerged as the winner of the Under 19 Girls’ event at the Europe Youth Top 10 in Tours after nine intense rounds of competition. Last year’s bronze medallist climbed all the way to the top this time, finishing level in points with her compatriot Leana HOCHART, but taking gold thanks to her head-to-head victory in their thrilling seven-game opening-round clash. Romania’s Bianca MEI ROSU, consistently strong throughout the tournament, completed the podium in third place.

It was a dream week for the host nation as both French players led the standings from start to finish.

GUO ZHENG started her campaign in style, defeating HOCHART in a spectacular first-round duel (4–3), which ultimately decided the title. Despite dropping only one further match – against Czech representative Veronika POLAKOVA – Nina showed remarkable consistency, beating all other opponents with confidence.

Her compatriot Leana HOCHART mirrored her performance, also winning eight of nine matches, but the early loss to Nina proved decisive. HOCHART’s wins over strong names such as Bianca MEI ROSU, Matilde PINTO, and Veronika POLAKOVA secured her the silver medal.

Romania’s Bianca MEI ROSU, last year’s Under 19 European Champion, confirmed her quality again in Tours. She finished with seven wins and two losses. Her victories over POLAKOVA, PINTO, and TOKIC showed why she remains one of Europe’s most consistent young players.

Behind the top three, Sara TOKIC of Slovenia impressed with a fourth-place finish, while Portugal’s Julia LEAL and Czechia’s Veronika POLAKOVA followed closely, each scoring four wins.
