Vladimir SIDORENKO second and Maksim GREBNEV third at JOOLA Top 10

Truls MOREGARD of Sweden is the newly crowned champion of the Cadet Boys Event at the 2016 JOOLA European Top 10 in Prague. Vladimir SIDORENKO of Russia is second and Maksim GREBNEV third after three days of fierce battles.

The winner of the event was decided in the last match. Both MOREGARD and SIDORENKO started the last round with seven wins and one defeat. After nail biting seven games the well-deserved victory went to Swede. Top seeded SIDORENKO had his consolation in silver.

MOREGARD is the member of Sweden’s TTCLM member Eslovs Al, and he also compete in the second division for the same club. This year at the European Championships in Zagreb he won three silver medals in singles, doubles and team’s events.

“In Prague I was nervous at the beginning against Jan VALENTA, but I beat him. In next round I expect the closer match against WANG Chenxi of Azerbaijan, since we already met in Zagreb. When I won in straight game it was relief, “ said TRULS.

Next on line was Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK of Austria.

“I had never played against him. I did not know what to expect. Especially, his service game worried me. At the end, he failed to put the pressure on me. I concluded that duel in straight games. My confidence boosted after the match against Bilal HAMACHE of France in fourth round. He was unbeaten day before and he made few upsets on his way to the fourth round. Against Vincent PICARD of France, I expected harder challenge, because I always had problem with his game. It was not a case this time. His coach complained about my service game and there were a lot of talking in between points, but it ended with my 4:0 victory.”

Maksim GREBNEV of Russia also failed to stop Truls.

“That was important win for me.”

The only match Truls lost was against Carlo ROSSI of Italy.

“I was 3:1 up, before I felt the pain in the knee. It affected my game, but I managed to win in seven games. However, in next match against Lilian BARDET of France I was not at the top of the game. I calculated and I decided to save some energy for the last match at the tournament against the top seed.”

The last match against SIDORENKO was direct clash for the title.

“I study his game, set the tactics, but I had to change it. My first plan was to play spin on his forehand, but then I went for backhand and I tried to stay as safe as I could. We went full distance in very nice clash. I won it in big style.”

Trules will go to Shanghai where he will be part of the Cadet World Challenge.

“Last year I won silver medal after unfortunate defeat against Chinese player, I had 3:2 and 11:10, before I lost in the final. I also won the medal in Doubles and Mixed Doubles…I hope this year it will be better. We have great team and I expect good results.”
