Official transfer of duties in DTTB

Elected to the office of President of the International Table Tennis Federation, officially assuming duties on Monday 1 September 2014 in succession to Adham SHARARA, month ago, Thomas WEIKERT has announced his resignation as President of the German Table

Elected to the office of President of the International Table Tennis Federation, officially assuming duties on Monday 1 September 2014 in succession to Adham SHARARA, month ago, Thomas WEIKERT has announced his resignation as President of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB). The 53 year-old lawyer relinquished the role on Tuesday after a ten year tenure of office. It is a position he has held since his election on Sunday 12 June 2005, at the General Assembly when becoming the association’s twelfth President. He succeeded Walter GRUNDAHL.

On Tuesday, in Germany at the General Assembly all regulations had to be strictly followed.

“First Thomas WEIKERT had to resign as President, then Michael GEIGER had to resign as Vice President Finance – because according to our statutes the treasurer is not allowed to hold a second position,” , the Secretary General of the German Association Matthias VATHEUER explains.

He supervised the order, managed the pollings among the EC members and kept records about the whole process. “Michael GEIGER could then be appointed President by the remaining EC members. After this the EC with the new President appointed Dr. Hans-Jürgen HACKENBERG as the new Vice President Finance”.

Thomas WEIKERT will remain in the DTTB as Counselor.

The first board meeting under the direction of Michael GEIGER and participation of Dr. Hans-Jürgen HACKENBERG’S is during the GAC Group ITTF World Tour German Open in Bremen next week (March 18 to 22).
