Both Austrian clubs join WECL semis

The latest Round 6 of 2014/15 Women`s European Champions League brought all four victories to the guests and very special moments for Austrian SVNO STROCK which made one of the biggest comebacks in WECL group stage. Tonight the 2012 WECL runner-up beat away Zamek Tarnobrzeg 3:2 to secure semi-final in season which didn’t` promise to much to them in the beginning. Actually, Schwechat`s side opened current WECL edition with four consecutive defeats.

Other Round 6 results are: Szekszard – Fenerbahce 0:3, Postas – Linz 0:3, Berlin – Metz 2:3. In the semi-final, no. 1 seed Fenerbahce will meet reigning champion Berlin Eastside, while in all-Austrian semis former WECL champion Linz AG Froschberg plays against SVNO STROCK in the reprise of 2012 semi-final.

The last season`s semi-finalist Zamek was favorite against STROCK, but HAN Ying was not enough to stop good team`s work from the other side. After first two matches teams were leveled and it was clear that third encounter will have a big importance. In that clash Renata STRBIKOVA and Dora MADARASZ played 2:2, 6:7 and soon it looked like the guest has the win in her hands, but after 6:10 host saved four set balls. However, MADARASZ managed to take next two points to secure 2:1 lead for STROCK.

HAN confidently defeated EKHOLM to provide fifth match for his side. In crucial battle well known defender Tetyana BILENKO beat Natalia PARTYKA in straight games.

In other Group A game Fenerbahce was better than Szekszard 3:0. Turkish champion goes to the semis with all six wins. Tonight they again changed their line-ups, playing with Irene IVANCAN, WU Yang and Yana NOSKOVA. But, however, Fenerbahce has no mercy.

In Group B Metz beat away defending champion but Berlin continues to the semis. These two clubs and Linz AG Froschberg finished all with 4-2 score, thus number of match points ratio between them decided the final standing: Linz 16-9, Berlin 16-10, Metz 13-11.

Austrian champion and WECL winner from 2009 and 2013 Froschberg defeated away Hungarian Postas. Camelia POSTOACA, LIU Jia and Sofia POLCANOVA contributed with one point.

Berlin was beaten 3:2 at home. Irina PALINA`s side wanted to avoid Fenerbahce for sure before the final, but now they will meet in the semis. In fifth encounter WU Jiaduo beat Georgina POTA in five games.
