Within 48 hours Athens’ Airport was two times “occupied” by supporters, fans and relatives of table tennis heroes who achieved historical success at the LIEBHERR European Championships. On Saturday Kalinikos KREANGA and Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU, the members of silver medal winning Greek team, received worm welcome at the Airport, whilst two days latter arrived Panagiotis GIONIS after fantastic success in singles event. Panagiotis GIONIS won the bronze medal in singles in Schwechat. Alongside the great leader arrived federal coach Kostas VATSAKLIS and 4th athlete of national team Tasos RINIOTIS. The warm welcome from their loved ones, also from the executives of the Greek federation, as well as people from the sport was the best reward for their achievement. A large Greek flag, another flag with the emblem of H.T.T.F. were spread widely at the gate B of the airport arrival, white and blue flags and bouquets of flowers filled the beautiful scenery and the warm applause accompanied every step of the athletes and the coach to the exit. Panagiotis GIONIS said: “I was close to great success few times in the past, but now I did it. It’s great that and I am very happy with two medals at the European Championship. These distinctions give me great strength to follow and I will try with the same zeal and the right job to get to new successes. As for the team, yes we played in March to stay in first division in Europe and now we were in the final of the European Championship, but it was not something unexpected. It is something that can happen in all sports, so bring it fate and after spending an adventure to stay to end up in a big distinction. That’s why we say that sport a small detail can change everything. I hope these medals to boost the sport and bring better days. I hope to change some things in order to can our federation to help more generally the sport”.
