During the LIEBHERR 2013 World Table Tennis Championships in Paris, promising French player Simon GAUZY signed a two-year contract for 2012/13 Bundesliga finalist TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (playing in final against Werder Bremen). German side, the 2009 European Champion League’s finalist, is building up very talented team under the hand of well recognized coach Dubravko SKORIC. This summer, 18-year old Simon GAUZY will join 2004 Olympic champion RYU Seung Min, tall Russian Kirill SKACHKOV and 19-year-old talent from England Liam PITCHFORD.
GAUZY spent last three seasons at Levallois. He is actual French single champion and world’s no 110 (in March 2012 he was no. 64 but he fell down because of injury). A few days ago he beat no. 59 Korean SEO Hyundeok in five games, reaching Round of 64 on LIEBHERR 2013 World Table Tennis Championships. Then he was defeated by TANG Peng in six sets.
“Simon has left a huge impression on us as a player but also as a type of personality. We were impressed by his attitude and his fighting spirit. He is one of the biggest talents in Europe. It suits us and it’s important for our project because we are building a young, very dynamic team for the future”, stressed Daniel ZWICKL, sport manager of TTF LIEBHERR Ochsenhausen and LIEBHERR Masters College.
Ochsenhausen`s president Kristijan PEJINOVIC added: “With Simon GAUZY and Liam PITCHFORD we want to pave the way for a new future and continue with the Liebherr Masters College our project to build the upcoming talent in Europe. We are sure that we have with Simon and Liam two extraordinary youngsters in our team”.
The 2009 European Cadet Champion and the 2010 Olympic Youth Games bronze medalist, Simon GAUZY has also two finals on World Junior Championships and two quarter finals on World Junior Circuit. He is positive that in Ochsenhausen starts a new chapter of his career. “I want to play in the Bundesliga, because that is the strongest national league in Europe. And Ochsenhausen is one of the top clubs. It’s a great opportunity for me to play with a world class player like RYU in a team and train with him. But Kirill and Liam are great players and great guys too. I think we can achieve a lot together. ”
