Last season`s finalists of Women`s European Champions League, Linz AG Froschberg and Budaorsi 2i SC met again, this time in group stage, and reigning champion overcame actual runner-up 3:0 (9:1 in sets). The ending of 2012/13 season was very exciting, as Budaorsi showed that even outsider has right to dream about title, but Linz came through dramatical moments to reach the crown. Tonight it was not case. Austrian champion easily beat Hungarian side to confirm top spot of Group B.

Two time gold medalist from recent 2013 LIEBHERR European Championships, Petrissa SOLJA (world`s no. 57) played her very first WECL game as no. 1 of Linz. And she was excellent, beating Szandra PERGEL in straight games. The result was close just in late third set when SOLJA needed three consecutive match balls to end the game.

When LIU Jia and Dora MADARASZ played last time at Linz, audience stopped its breath, because each point was important in battle for WECL title. In that clash LIU somehow turned the match to bring second WECL crown to Linz, but tonight had much easier job. She concluded opening set with four points in a row (7:9, 11:9), in second and third she came from 7:7 to 9:7, but in third guest turned on 10:9 and won that set. In fourth, the world`s no. 27 had an impressive run after poor start: from 1:3 to 10:4.

Iveta VECENOVSKA secured the win for actual WECL champion, defeating easily Maria FAZEKAS.

Regarding the game at Russia, the very first WECL game was held at Tyumen, but host team had no reason for celebrations.
