Indian TT father Ranga RAMANUJAN passes away

The members of ETTU family with deep sadness received the announcement that T.D. Ranga RAMANUJAN passed away. He passed away at his son’s house in Hyderabad in the early hours of Monday 14th October 2013.

RAMANUJAN was 96 years old and had been suffering from lung related problems; recently he had been treated at a local private hospital.

Born in Tamil Nadu, Ranga RAMANUJAN is considered the father of Indian table tennis, being at the helm of the Table Tennis Federation of India for four decades either in the role of Secretary or President. A former Executive Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation he was elected to the ITTF President’s Advisory Council in 1999.

Furthermore, he was the founder President of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation and a life President of the Asian Table Tennis Union, playing an active role in the organisation of major international event; usually as the guiding hand.

In particular, he was a principal figure in organising the World Championships in Mumbai in 1952 and Kolkata in 1975, as well as the Asian Table Tennis Championships and Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951.
