In the final of the Cadet Boys Team’s Event at the 56th European Youth Championships, tomorrow will play Slovenia against Czech Republic. It is sensational outcome of the semi final duels in Ostrava. Reigning champions, France, after five years, failed to reach the ultimate stage. For brave performance, Czech Republic, seeded no. 6 in Team’s Event were awarded with the place in the final. After so many years champions were forced into defeat. Tomas POLANSKY beat Joe SEYFRIED in the opening match, but Lucas RIGAULT managed to bring back champions on track. Patric KLOS lost next singles, but he helped POLANSKY to win the Doubles. At the end POLANSKY added third point to the scoresheets after victory over RIGAULT in five games.
Slovenia crowned great performance of Darko JORGIC and Erik PAULIN with the medal. The team, which was seeded only at the position no. three in their Group, nine overall, made fantastic success. In the semi final Slovenia beat Romania in straight games. Cristian PLATEA forced JORGIC to go full distance and it was the same case scenario in all three encounters today, but neither of them concluded in favour of Romania. In the quarterfinal Czech accounted at Russia and secured first medal at the Championships.
The favourites stumbled after just three matches. Tomas POLANSKY, Europe’s no. 6, beat Nikita YARUSHIN to give host nation good start, but the real beauty was the duel between Patrik KLOS and player ranked at position no. three at the Old Continent Maxim CHAPLYGIN. KLOS had to go through agonising fifth decisive game, but he prevailed. It was close match in doubles, but Russia evidently lost their steam. “I am feeling good playing in front of home crowd. For me it is not big surprise that we won this match,” said KLOS.
Another surprise shook up the cadets’ event. Belarus will also missed the medal ceremony. Slovenia’s boys reached the rostrum after the fierce battle in five matches. Aliaksandr KHANIN started the duel in right way for favourites, by beating Erik PAULIN. However it was Darko JORGIC who prevented Belarus of celebrating too early. After five games he brought back Slovenia into the game. Doubles duel went on Belarus account, but they could not do much more after that. JORGIC added another point to the score board against KHANIN and after five games JORGIC beat LABANAU.
For top seeds it was another easy morning. France started their encounter against Italy with win of Nolan GIVONE over Daniele PINTO. Joe SEYFRIED added another to the score against Luca BRESSAN. However things gets little more interesting in doubles. PINTO and BRESSAN overcame Irvan BERTRAND and GIVONE, but their joy did not last for long.
Poland’s Tomasz KOTOWSKI and Aleksander WERECKI went fill distance in two matches today against Romania’s Alexandru MANOLE and Cristian PLETEA, but that was all they could get from their adversaries.
