BOLL and OVTCHAROV going ahead in Verviers

In the second stage of the Event Timo BOLL and recently crowned European champion Dimitrij OVTCHAROV of Germany recorded victories, whilst Vladimir SAMSONOV of Belarus and Patrick BAUM of Germany lost their encounters.
The winner of the event from 2002 and 2005, BOLL overcame Hong Kong’s JIANG Tianyi in straight games (11-5, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6), whilst OVTCHAROV needed two more to beat YAN An of China (11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 11-5,2-11,11-9). BOLL will play against Marcos FREITAS of Portugal in second round. OVTCHAROV will play against CHEN Chien – An of Taipei.
“I even surprised myself with good performance. I did not expect it will go that easy. My game was error free and I am happy about my tactics,” said BOLL who is accompanied by his wife Rodelia. The couple expects baby girl to be born next month.
XU Xin of China, best ranked player on duty in Verviers overcame BAUM in five games (11-5, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5,11-5), whilst CHUANF Chih Yuan beat SAMSONOV in six (11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 2-11,11-9,12-10). Tomorrow BAUM will play against TANG Peng of Hong Kong, whilst SAMSONOV will meet JUNG Youngsik of Korea.
Portugal’s Marcos FREITAS emerged successful in a tension packed contest against Singapore’s YANG Zi, in the first stage of proceedings. The Belgian crowd in the Hall du Paire glued to the action, enthralled by the contest that unfolded, saw Marcos FREITAS, the highest World ranked player in action in the initial stage of the tournament, maintain his nerve to secure victory in a titanic struggle. He succeeded in seven games (9-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6,11-7, 6-11, 16-14).
