The goal for Austria at the 32nd LIEBHERR European Table Tennis Championships is to win minimum two medals. In the team event the Austrian men´s team as well as the women´s team has good chances. However, the men´s team has to beat title defender Germany in the first round – first.

Robert GARDOS: “Even without Timo BOLL Germany is the favorite for gold. I think our chances to win are about 30 to 70.“ The women team, first, have to play a qualification match against Turkey. Amelie SOLJA explained: “If we beat Turkey, than everything can happen.“ In the next round they would play against title defender Netherland.

LIU Jia said: “Our chances to beat them are very good, but first we have to win our match against Turkey. We have a very strong team now with Amelie SOLJA and Sofia POLCANOVA. It will be very hard for everybody to beat us.“ In the individual events Robert GARDOS and Daniel HABESOHN want to defend their title in the men´s doubles at home. “Our goal is gold and I think we have good chances, but it will be a very tough tournament and it is also a very good result when we win another medal than Gold,“ said Daniel HABESOHN:

After 2005 LIU Jia´s goal is to win the European Championships again: “I´ve never trained so hard than last summer. I´m better prepared than ever before and I want to win these championships.“ Women´s Head Coach LIU Yan Jun: “So close to the European Championships we can feel the expectations from the organisers, fans and media representatives, but it is a positive way. The whole team is very motivated and trained very hard. You can see them getting better and better from week to week.“

Men´s Head Coach Jarek KOLODZIEJCZYK: „At the moment I am not able to say who will play on Friday against Germany. The team is fit and also Robert GARDOS could handle his shoulder problems. Last week we trained a lot that´s why our focus is now on regeneration.”
