The final 100 days before the start of the 2013 LIEBHERR European Championships in Multiversum, have been marked yesterday with the press conference at the Werner SCHLAGER Academy. The preparation is going according to plans and everything will be ready for the big event starting from 4th to 13th October.

Dr. Petra BOHUSLAV, member of the Lower Austrian government spoke to the media representatives: “Table Tennis is a fascinating sport for young and old. We are very happy in lower Austria to have Werner SCHLAGER, who fascinates and motivates all of us. We need personalities like Werner SCHLAGER to bring top events to Austria. With 1.000 participants, including referees and officials, and more than 20.000 guests, this European Championship brings a huge benefit for our region. That is one of the reasons why the SPORT LAND Niederösterreich supports this event.“

Hannes FAZEKAS, mayor of Schwechat said he is looking forward to welcome the guests. “European Championships are a good chance for Schwechat to become more popular. Of course it is also a big challenge for us. Schwechat helps and supports the organizers in every part of the European Championships – training courts, parking lot, and others.

Speaking about sports aspects Dr. Gottfried FORSTHUBER, President ÖTTV added: “We have a very strong line up with Liu Jia as one of the favorites for the Woman Single Event. We will also give some young players the chance to improve themselves. In total we can have 16 players for the European Championships.“

Robert GARDOS will be at the list of favorites: “After the World Championships in Paris I had to play Club-Championship in France and used the last weeks for training. In July I will go on holiday. On July 29th I will start an intense training program for the European Championships. I hope that a lot of Austrian fans will come to the European Championships. We are able to win Medals in nearly every competition.“

Martin SÖRÖS, CEO Werner SCHLAGER Academy explained: “The WSA is a table tennis hall. The European Championships will be a big challenge for us. We will play on 12 tables, four tables in the Multiversum Schwechat and eight tables in the WSA. Tribunes for up to 500 guests will give the WSA an absolute newlook.“

Rudolf SPORRER, General Secretary ÖTTV: “At the moment about 120 people are working for the European Championships. With all the volunteers at the European Championships this number will increase.“
