We are heading towards the end of another great year of European table tennis and there are still a couple of major events left for fans to enjoy. The highlight is undoubtedly the European Championships in Herning, Denmark. The change in format this year means that only the singles and doubles events will be taking place in Denmark rather than both the singles and team competitions. While this unfortunately means that the event will be shorter, it does also mean that the participants will be fitter, hungrier and more motivated to win the gold.

The big names return once again to compete for the most coveted prize in European singles competition. A total of 119 female players and 146 male players have entered the competition and there is only one player from the top 20 missing from the men’s event and three from the women’s.

Defending champion Timo BOLL tops the men’s rankings once again and remains the favourite to re-take the title again this year, but will face tough competition from his German counterparts OVTCHAROV, STEGER, BAUM and SÜSS. Spain’s SHEN YANFEI is the number one in the women’s competition with defending champion LI JIAO in 3rd. The Dutch player was in a class of her own last year, but the women’s event continues to go from strength to strength and we can expect to see some exciting matches over the course of the 5 days.
