27/03/2011 – The ITTA has announced details of the forthcoming BUTTERFLY National Junior Championships which take place this year in ALSAA Sports Complex, Old Airport Road, Dublin on the 9th and 10th of April, 2011. Entries are now open and will remain open until Saturday 2nd April, 2011.

“Underage table tennis is vitally important to the ITTA Board – and we are looking forward to the BUTTERFLY National Junior Championships, the final event of the season for our junior players. Besides the prestige of being crowned a National Champion, players will be seeking to gain as many ranking points as possible for the End of Season Ranking Lists. All of this augurs well for an exciting and very competitive 2 days at ALSAA,” stated ITTA Secretary Kenneth STRONG

In the Junior Boys section, a number of key protagonists are ineligible to compete. This leaves this event wide open with Eastpoint’s Ryan FARRELL probably the favourite. Leinster is very strong in this age category, with Conor BEADES, Conor MULLALLY and Kevin HUTCHINSON also in contention. Farrell will also be keen to retain his National Cadet title and could very well do the double. In the Under 12 Boys, Ulster’s Zak WILSON and Ryan MCCONKEY have shared the 4 Ranking titles between them this year and will be favourites for the title.

The Junior Girls will present yet another chance for Ashley GIVAN to shine on the National stage. She will be pushed to her limits by Ballincollig’s Edel O’REILLY and Connacht’s Sarah TIMLIN. GIVAN though, having just retained her National Senior title, will be keen to repeat last year’s heroics by claiming both the Junior and Senior National titles. It will take an incredible performance to deny her. In the Cadet Girls, Katie MCGLONE leads the rankings but this is an open category and the winner could come from Ulster’s Emma LUDLOW or Hannah-Lynch DAWSON or indeed the strong Leinster tio of Elayna MCGLONE, Meabh SLATTERY and Amy-Lou HAYES. The Under 12 Girls category is also very difficult to call – Katie MCGLONE will be favourite if entered to this age group.
