07/03/2010 – For all four winners of the 2010 National German Championships it was an overtime job. All finals ended in the seventh game. Most of the results in the Arena Trier were surprising. Only in men’s doubles did the favourites win: top-seed Dimitrij OVTCHAROV and Patrick BAUM. Christian S??beat DTTL club mate Timo BOLL in the singles’ event and kept him away from winning national title number ten.

“All national team members strive to win this title”, SUSS explained. “But we are such a strong generation and have Timo an amazing champion with us is very important. It is so difficult to beat him. Even if you’re 3-1 in the lead like I was today you can never be sure to win. He is always concentrated”.

Like for SUSS, it was the first singles title for Kristin SILBEREISEN, too. The 24-year-old beat top-seed WU Jiaduo in the semi-final and 15-year-old Petrissa SOLJA in the final. “I won the national ranking tournament and today have won the most important national title. I’m so happy I don’t have to wait for it any longer,” said SILBEREISEN.

Two teenagers surprised in women’s doubles. Sabine WINTER, 17-year-old winner of this year’s Europe Youth Top 10, and Kathrin M??ACH (18) beat the holders, ZHENQI Barthel/Kristin SILBEREISEN (semi finals), and in addition Elke SCHALL/WU Jiaduo in the final. “We can hardly believe it”, said Winter. “During a recent training match we didn’t have the slightest chance against Schall/Wu.”

Women’s doubles – Semi-finals: SILBEREISEN/BARTHEL – M??ACH/WINTER 3:4 (-9, 6, 5, -6, 6, -8, -9); SCHALL/WU – G??/ROBERTSON 4:1 (-9, 12, 5, 10, 3). Final: M??ACH/WINTER – SCHALL/WU 4:3 (8, -10, 15, -4, -15, 9, 3).

Men’s doubles – Semi-finals: BAUM/OVTCHAROV – SCHLICHTER/FLEMMING 4:2 (1, 6, -5, 11, -10, 8)
HIELSCHER/STEGER – CHRIST/WEHKING 4:0 (9, 5, 10, 9). Final: BAUM/OVTCHAROV – HIELSCHER/STEGER 4:3 (13, -9, 9, -10, -6, 10, 6) .

Women’s singles – Semi-finals: Kristin SILBEREISEN – WU Jiaduo 4:2 (8,-6,-8,9,14,8); Petrissa SOLJA – Guo PENGPENG 4:2 (7,-4,-7,5,6,7). Final: Kristin SILBEREISEN – Petrissa SOLJA 4:3 (-14, 6, -3, 9, -9, 7, 7)

Men’s singles – Semi-finals: Timo BOLL – Steffen MENGEL 4:0 (4,2,3,2); Christian S??- Dimitrij OVTCHAROV 4:2 (4,6,-4,-13,8,6). Final: Timo BOLL – Christian S??3:4 (-5, -8, 2, -5, 6, 9, -7)
