European Youth Top 10

Last year’s silver medalist, Annett KAUFMANN of Germany went one step higher this weekend in Berlin. She clinched gold in the Cadet Girls Singles Event at the European Youth Top 10. She had only one defeat, whilst Charlotte LUTZ of France with two defeats was second; third is Anna HURSEY of Wales. For Wales it is the best result at the Top 10 (12). Adam ROBERTSON was fifth in 2001.

“I was very nervous at the begging. I was under pressure because I came as a silver medalist from last year and I had to justified my result and my position at the seedings. In addition, this year we played in Berlin and I had to think to make our fans proud. I managed to overcame the pressure and I am happy with my result at the end,” said Annett.

Mia GRIESEL finished at the position no. four and she is the lowest ranked player at the European rankings to reach the position no. four. She is currently ranked at the position 23 in Europe.

KAUFMANN was very confident and fought for every point. In combination with the good tactics, she proved too strong for almost all the players.

“ I was angry in my match against Mia, that I lost. I made too many simple mistakes. I did not have the right feeling for the ball in that match,” said Annett.

Her game improved after that, second round.

“ My hardest matches were against Helena SOMMEROVA of Czech Republic and Romania’s Bianca Mei ROSU. I think that eventually experience prevailed in both matches. I was mentally stronger and more calm.”
