Spain Masters 2020 - November 2020
After the success of the first edition, the Spain Masters 2020 returns to Madrid with a spectacular lineup of athletes. Seven players from Top100 will participate in this bubble event, which will take place at the Hotel Riu Plaza España from 23 to 26 of November.
The Portuguese Marcos FREITAS,no. 25 in the World ranking, and the Belarus Vladimir SAMSONOV, three times World Cup champion, three times European champion and current no. 26 at the World rankings, will be the main stars in the RIU Masters, while the Brazilian Bruna TAKAHASHI (47 WR) and Spain's Galia DVORAK (78 WR) lead the list of players at the Iberdrola Masters. In addition, this tournament will feature seven Top 100s including Dane Jonathan GROTH (28 WR), Spanish Álvaro ROBLES (62 WR) and Portuguese Joao MONTEIRO (80 WR).
Following the philosophy of this event, in its bid to offer competition alternatives to Spanish athletes, nine national players will take part. Álvaro ROBLES, reigning vice-champion in doubles at the World Championship, and Galia DVORAK, six times national champion. They lead a list that is completed with Carlos MACHADO, eleven times national champion, Carlos CABALLERO, Carlos FRANCO, Miguel Ángel VILCHEZ and Francisco Miguel RUIZ, as well as Sofía Xuan ZHANG and Eugenia SASTRE at the Iberdrola Spain Masters.
The Spain Masters 2020 consists of three tournaments in October, November and December. Each event will feature the IBERDROLA Masters, for the women's competition, and the RIU Masters, for the men's. Both will take place simultaneously in the same playing area during the four days of competition, which will begin with a group stage, where the two best players will advance to the final stage of the competition and fight for the title. There is a cash prizes for all athletes who reach the final stage.
With this project, the Royal Spanish Table Tennis Federation will reinforce the national image of table tennis with the live broadcast of the entire competition through its own TV channel (Youtube RFETM). In addition, Teledeporte will broadcast the finals live and open.
In light of the persistent health crisis, the organization has established firm criteria to create a ‘health bubble’ and maintain the health security of athletes, tournament staff and staff at the RIU Plaza España hotel.
At their entrance to the hotel, all athletes will pass a PCR medical test, which consists of a test and a temperature control, and will remain inside the hotel until the end of their participation in the championship. If any athlete leaves the ‘health bubble’ created for the event, the organization will disqualify them immediately.
The competition will take place in the halls of the RIU Plaza España hotel, with limited public access thanks to the great coverage, both by streaming and television.
