Duesseldorf Masters X: DUDA and ASSAR from Saturday on Duty

At the tenth Duesseldorf Masters, the participants in the quarter finals are determined. Michael SERVATY, who was not seeded, has qualified for the second day of the tournament, on which the top seeded players, Egyptian Omar ASSAR and Bergneustadt native Benedikt DUDA, will also take part after resting on the first day. The quarter-final matches on Saturday as well as the semi-final and the final match on Sunday will be broadcasted on both days from 10 am via live streaming on Sportdeutschland.TV, Borussia-TV and tischtennis.de.

Surprising participant on Saturday in the quarterfinals is Michael SERVATY (Buschhausen). The 26-year-old with his 4:1 victory put a severe damper on the tournament ambitions of Kirill FADEEV (Dortmund), who has been a strong during the last weeks. However, the bronze medalists at the German University Championships 2019 will now face an almost insurmountable hurdle in the shape of the world number 39 in the fight for a place in the semi-finals on Saturday at 10 a.m. Benedikt DUDA.

Tomorrow, the decision will also be made as to whether multiple African champion Omar ASSAR can qualify directly as one of the five best on points in the overall standings for the Masters final on August 21 and 23 at the ARAG CenterCourt. In order to be sure to be there, the world number 38th needs to make it to the semifnal this weekend, which he can reach from 12.15 p.m. with a win over Mainz talent Cedric MEISSNER. MEISSNER had to tremble for his victory today in the most exciting match of the day against Daniel RINDERER (Munich) after a 2:3 deficit, but won the last two games against the 18-year-old youth international each with the razor-thin result of 12:10.

Only if ASSAR, who is seeded in first place, loses, could he still be caught by Steffen MENGEL (Mühlhausen) or Tobias HIPPLER (Cologne), provided, however, that one of his two rivals manages to win the title in the tenth Masters. MENGEL will play HAMMS former U21 European Championship finalist Gerrit ENGEMANN in the quarter-finals on Saturday at 10.45 a.m., HIPPLER will meet his U23 national team colleague Fanbo MENG (Fulda) 45 minutes later.

Already qualified for the Masters Finals, which will be held with 8 players, are Dang QIU, Dimitrij OVTCHAROV, Benedikt DUDA and Anton KÄLLBERG. Number in the standings right now is still Omar ASSAR. 3 more players receive a wild card.
