TTCLM Round 1: Hennebont wins in Croatia
2019/20 Table Tennis Champions League Men
Reigning champion Fakel Gazprom Orenburg beat VS Angers TT 3:0 in the opening round of the 2019/20 TTCLM, playing on home ground with its powerful line-up, Marcos FREITAS, Dimitrij OVTCHAROV, Vladimir SAMSONOV. Borussia Dusseldorf, 11-time TTCLM champion, overcame Sporting 3:1 in Group D, while Hennebont beat Croatian STK Starr away.
Marcos FREITAS (Portugal) and Dimitrij OVTCHAROV (Germany), opponents in the recent ITTF 2019 European Team Championships in Nantes, showed their strength as teammates. They beat Jens LUNDQVIST and Andrea LANDRIEU respectively, to secure victory for Orenburg (third match SAMSONOV vs PILARD w.o)
Cedric NUYTINCK prevailed against both, QIU Liang and SUN Chia-Hung to provide two points for Hennebont in Group D. French team defeated STK Starr Croatia 3:1, in spite of losing opening encounter, when SUN Chia-Hung beat FAN Sheng Peng. Hennebont’s newcomer Samuel WALKER added third point for the guests as he overcame Ronald REDJEP in straight games.
Diogo CARVALHO upset Timo BOLL in the opener, but Borussia beat Sporting 3:1 in Group D. Two best ranked African players, Omar ASSAR (world no. 44) and Quadri ARUNA (no. 19) met in the second clash, when Egyptian won in four games. Anton KALLBERG beat Francisco SILVA in the third encounter, while Timo BOLL secured win for the host side, as he beat ARUNA in straight sets.
Dartom Bogoira was successful playing away against GDSC Juncal. Poland's team won 3:0.
