England failed to produce another upset against Asian side. In the quarterfinal of the Men’s Event at the ZEN-NOH 2019 ITTF Team World Cup they lost to Chinese Taipei in straight matches.

LIAO Cheng-Ting and CHEN Chien-An opened the winning row of three straight games victories. They beat Tom JARVIS and Paul DRINKHALL. Liam PITCHFORD put LIN Yun-Ju under pressure but the outcome of the match was once again three null. Paul DRINKHALL suffered by the hands of CHEN Chien-An in second single.

“I think we were behind in this game especially in the doubles. They trend throughout the match and they are on top of the game. I had the chance to win in the singles but it was a bit close in all the games. It is a good tournament for us having come through the group where we won two important matches. We just need to make some small changes in our game and generally, we have a perfect performance and this is the positive we are taking from this tournament;” said DRINKHALL.

Liam explained how close was the game.

"I think I did fairly well against Yun-Ju Lin because I was leading 9-6 in the first game but he caught up with me. I was virtually leading in all the games but he was not missing his shot and he could receive very well. This is the first time I am playing against him and I could say the match was close throughout. I think we lost to one of the strongest teams in the tournament and we have learnt a lot from this hoping to continue to work harder as a team" added PITCHFORD.
