China‘s FAN Zhendong and Japan‘s Mima ITO are the crowned champions of the 2019 ITTF World Tour Platinum, bet-at-home.com Austrian Open, concluded today, November 17th, in Linz. Men‘s Singles no.1 beat his compatriot, actual world no.41 ZHAO Zihao in straight games in the gold medal contest, while the Women‘s Singles no.3 overcame top seeded ZHU Yuling of China in five games.

FAN faced his toughest challenge during the tournament in the semi-final clash against Germany‘s Timo BOLL, bearing in mind that he saved three match points. Chinese reversed the score from 1:3 to 4:3 and won (11:2, 4:11, 11:13, 5:11, 11:3, 11:5, 14:12), securing his 13th ITTF World Tour title in the singles event.

“This was the best Timo BOLL ever played against me. In the end my mental strength helped me to succeed. I’m just overwhelmed to be in the finals where I try to maintain my performance from this morning”, stated FAN Zhendong for ITTF website.

Mima ITO prevented double China‘s success in the singles event, as she beat ZHU Yuling in the final 4:2 (11-5, 16-18, 11-7, 13-11, 12-10). It was ITO‘s seventh career ITTF World Tour title and first title in the 2019 ITT World Tour taken by one non-Chinese player.
