Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games
Romania’s Andreea DRAGOMAN booked her place in the semifinal of the Women’s Singles Event at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games. At the quarterfinal stage DRAGOMAN caused an upset. She overcame Amy Wang of the United States, the no.9 seed (11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 12-10).
“It was a very hard match and she’s a very good player, but I think I played good and I’m very happy that I was able to handle it well to win. I think I’m in good form now and I’m happy about this,” said DRAGOMAN.
In the semis Andreea will meet Miu HIRANO of Japan.
“I will now prepared for my semifinals against Hirano, she’s a very good player, but I have nothing to lose against her so I will just play my best table tennis.”
In the quarters HIRANO Overcame Russia’s Mariia TAILAKOVA (11:2, 11:7, 1:7, 11:3). Another quarterfinalists from Europe, Azerbaijan’s NING Jing experienced defeat at the hands of India’s Archana Girish KAMATH, the no.18 seed (13-11, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 6-11, 12-10, 11-7).
In Men’s Singles Event in the quarterfinal China’s WANG Chuqin, the no.6 seed beat Sweden’s Truls MOREGARD, the no.3 seed, in five games (11-6, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9). Ioannis SGOUROPOULOS of Greece, the no.8 seed, had experienced defeat at the hands of Chinese Taipei’s LN Yun-Ju, the no.4 seed (6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5), the defeat coming after Romania’s Cristian PLETEA, the no.9 seed, had lost to Japan’s Tomokazu HARIMOTO, the top seed (11-3, 11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 11-6).
