Jorgen PERSSON and CHEN Weixing win two out of three youngest categories in Las Vegas
2018 World Veteran Championships, Las Vegas, USA
Two European legendary players are among the gold medalists of the Men`s Singles event at the 2018 World Veteran Championships held last week in Las Vegas, USA: Sweden`s Jorgen PERSSON (Over 50) and CHEN Weixing (Over 45). All other medal winners of this event, in all age categories, are below.
Men`s Singles
Over 40
Dian David Mickael JACOBS from Indonesia beat USA`s JU Mingwei in four game of the finals. Bronze medalists are the following: Jan HRNCIRIK (Czech Republic) and Thomas KEINATH (Slovakia).
Over 45
Two legends of European table tennis met in the finals, as Austria`s CHEN Weixing defeated Germany`s Jorg ROSSKOPF 3:0 (11:3, 11:9, 11:8). Bronze medalists are the following: Mats KALLBERG from Sweden and YEH Chi-Shan from Chinese Taipei.
Over 50
Sweden`s iconic player Jorgen PERSSON took the gold in the very tense finals, being extended to full distance by Germany`s Andras PODPINKA 3:2 (11:1, 11:9, 8:11, 8:11, 12:10). Bronze medalists are the following: Denmark`s Allan BETNSEN and Russia`s Aleksandr SAVELEV.
Over 55
Germany`s WANG Yansheng won gold after his win in straight games against Austria`s DING Yi. Bronze medalists are the following: Luxembourg`s Traian CIOCIU and China`s XHOU Min.
Over 60
Bela FRANK from Hungary secured the title in the finals against Germany`s Manfred NEISWAND, winning it in the straight sets. Bronze medalists are the following: Malaysia`s KEE Tay and China`s HUANG Jiayang.
Over 65
Germany`s Bernhard THIEL lost to China`s HUANG Jianjiang 3:0 (11:3, 11:6, 11:8) in the gold medal contest. Bronze medalists are the following: Franz-Josef HURMANN from Germany and Canada`s PANG Zhan Hua.
Over 70
China`s ZHANG Xueyou needed five games to secure gold in the finals against Czech Republic`s Jiri FAFEK. Bronze medalists are the FAFEK`s compatriot Karel SEKANINA and Hong Kong`s HUANG GuangLin.
Over 75
WANG Chang Qin from USA won the title, as he defeated Chinese Taipei`s CHANG Tseng-Hsiung in straight games. Bronze medalists are the following: Germany`s Siegfried LEMKE and Australia`s Barclay George REID.
Over 80
Two USA`s players met one another in the final clash, as Richard H. HICKS beat TAY Chong Keng after full five games. Bronze medalists are two German players, Klaus KRUGER and Dieter LIPPELT.
Over 85
Finland`s Kai MERIMAA beat Czech Republic`s Frantisek PREIS in for games of the finals. Bronze medalists are two French players, Louis GAIFFE and Henri YAHIEL.
Over 90
Czech Republic Lumir RUZHA lost to China`s CHEN Yongning after full five games of the gold medal contest. Bronze medalists are two USA`s players, Simon WASSERMAN and SHEN Tan Tsu.
