Japan Open: Timo BOLL sweeps into quarter-finals

Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour LION Japan Open

 

No. 1 seed at the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour LION Japan Open, Timo BOLL from Germany, has confirmed his reputation in the first two rounds, beating both his opponents in straight games – Japan`s Yuta TANAKA 4:0 (13:11, 12:10, 11:5, 11:7); Sweden`s Mattias KARLSSON 4:0 (11:7, 11:6, 11:8, 11:5).

 

Former Ochsenhausen`s player beat actual member of that German club in the Men`s Singles Round of 16: CHUANG Chih-Yuan (Chinese Taipei) – Simon GAUZY (France) 4:2 (11:4, 9:11, 7:11, 11:6, 11:5, 11:6). A round before, Frenchman recorded an incredible win against Korea`s JEOUNG Youngsik after full seven games – 4:3 (11:9, 11:9, 8:11, 11:5, 3:11, 6:11, 11:4).

 

Benedikt DUDA was beaten by host nation`s Kenta MATSUDAIRA 4:1 (11:8, 7:11, 11:9, 14:12, 11:6). Japanese faces Timo BOLL in the quarter-final clash, tomorrow, June 9th.

 

Actual ITTF-Europe Top 16 winner Bernadette SZOCS is unique European representative in the Women`s Singles Round of 16. Romania`s player overcame Hong Kong`s DOO Hoi Kem, recently crowned Seamaster ECLW champion with Croatian club Dr. Casl. SZOCS reversed the score from 0:2 to 4:2 to set up her clash with No. 1 seed Kasumi ISHIKAWA from Japan.

 

Netherlands Britt EERLAND lost to World No. 5 China`s LIU Shiwen in straight games. Two host players have eliminated two European stars: Minami ANDO beat Elizabeta SAMARA, while Miu HIRANO was better than FU Yu.

 

Regarding Men and Women doubles events, there is no any pair from Old Continent in the semi-finals, as well as in the Mixed Doubles.
