Dabang Smashers defeat Warriors TTC in Tie 3 of CEAT UTT Season 2

The Dabang Smashers were off to a smashing start to their CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis Season 2, posting a dominant victory against Warriors TTC in Tie 3. Smashers won the tie 14-7, as the Warriors only managed a win in the women’s singles game between Sakura MORI vs Sofia POLCANOVA.

Dabang Smashers sent Manika BATRA to combat Warriors TTC’s Sofia POLCANOVA in Match 1. Both proved to be equally competitive with each other, as the first and third games were decided by Golden Point. Both went BATRA’S way, as they finished 2-1 (11-10, 5-11, 11-10).

To lift his team, Warriors’ Achanta Sharath KAMAL came out against Smashers’ Masaki YOSHIDA. Sharath KAMAL’S good serves earned him points while YOSHIDA was quick to return and provided tough competition. Sharath KAMAL won the first game despite tough competition from YOSHIDA, but lost the next two, failing to return with forehand shots in the deep. YOSHIDA’S finished 2-1 (11-7, 11-7, 11-8) as the Smashers went 4-2 up against the Warriors.

The Smashers’ pair of Sathiyan GNANASEKARAN and Sakura MORI thoroughly dominated the mixed doubles match against Sharath KAMAL and Hana MATELOVA. Matelova failed to reach and connect on multiple occasions as her opponents took away consecutive games to seal the match. The last game remained close and a much-needed comeback for Warriors, but the Smashers took the game with a Golden Point finishing 3-0. This took the Smashers to a five-point lead in the tie.

While Quadri ARUNA was being pitted as the favourite against Cedrick NUYTINCK, the latter won the fourth match dominantly. He won consecutive games to win the match while Aruna made a stern comeback with an 11-2 scoreline in the final game to earn the Warriors a crucial point.

Polcanova got the Warriors back in the tie, with a 3-0 (4-11, 4-11, 8-11) against MORI in the next match. POLCANOVA’S subtle returns tamed an aggressive Mori as the former won first two games with ease. Though MORI looked more comfortable in the final game, Polcanova had the final say.

Skipper SATHIYAN got his side to an unassailable lead in the very next game to nullify Polcanova’s hard work, as he beat CHUANG Chih-Yuan in the singles. SATHIYAN came across exceptionally quick and confident with his shots, outwitting his opponent with strong backhands, and registering a 2-1 (11-7, 11-6, 7-11).

One of the youngest players of CEAT UTT Season 2, Adriana DIAZ made a fruitful debut with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-7) against Pooja SAHASRABUDHE in the final match of the day.
