Ambitions high with one year to go until the European Games Minsk 2019
The 2019 European Games will be held from 21st to 30th June next year
One year to go! On June 21, 2019 over 4,000 of the best athletes from all 50 European National Olympic Committees will gather in Minsk, Belarus, for the start of the second edition of Europe’s premier multi-sport event: The European Games Minsk 2019. Table Tennis will be one 15 sports, which must be very important part of the upcoming event in the “country of Vladimir SAMSONOV”. Moreover, Minsk is a birthplace of one of the biggest European table tennis stars ever.
Over 8,000 applications for volunteers have been received so far, while 50 Minsk 2019 volunteers are already learning the ropes in roles with the organizers of the FIFA World Cup in Russia, stated Minsk European Games Organizing Committee. Some 4,000 volunteers will receive on-the-job training at the many test events planned in the lead-up to next summer’s European Games.
There are 11 existing venues out of 12 facilities to be used at Minsk 2019. MEGOC stressed that its goal is to develop the European Games into the second most important sporting event on the calendar behind the Olympic Games. “With a highly successful first edition of the Games in Baku in 2015 already under our belts, and with full confidence in Minsk 2019, we feel that we are well on our way to making this goal a reality”, stated the 2019 Minsk EG at its newly launched website.
Following highly successful inaugural edition in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2015, at its 2016 General Assembly the EOC voted Minsk, the capital of Belarus, as host to the second edition of the European Games, which will take place from 21 to 30th June 2019. The programme will include 15 sports, 10 of which will provide Olympic qualifications for Tokyo 2020.
