Seamaster ECLW: Favorites show their class

Three quarter-final matches (1st leg) held tonight, January 26th: Szekszard – Berlin 0:3, Lille – Dr. Casl 0:3, Saint Quentinois – Bursa 1:3


Favorites have confirmed their class in tonight`s first leg of Seamaster ECLW quarter-finals: Szekszard AC - TTC Berlin Eastside 0:3, CP LYSSOIS LILLE METROPOLE - Dr. Časl 0:3, TT SAINT QUENTINOIS - BURSA BÜYÜKŞEHİR BELEDİYESPOR 1:3. Reigning champion Berlin and one of title contenders Dr. Casl lost just two sets each.


German club, four-time ECWL winner beat Szekszard away, probably much easier than they expected. Actual world no. 20 Georgina POTA, who played in her homeland, upset the best ranked ECLW player CHENG I-Cheng (world no. 7) in full five games, in spite of being two games behind. That paved the way to Berlin`s victory.


In other two clashes, Shiho MATSUDAIRA and SHAN Xiaona beat Polina MIKHAILOVA and Dora MADARASZ respectively in straight sets.


Croatia`s Dr. CASL showed its powerful line-up in France: DOO Hoi Kem (world no. 9), LI Jie (no. 14) and FU Yu (no. 36). The 2016 ITTF-European Championships runner-up in Singles event, FU has overcame current world no. 41 Bernadette SZOCS after full five games. Host managed to level the score in spite of being two sets down, but guest provided first point for Croatian side. DOO recorded fast win against XIAO Maria, as well as LI Jie against Agnes LE LANNIC.


Actual ETTU Cup Women winner Bursa is very close to the semi-final, thanks to current world no. 12 LEE Ho Ching who provided two wins against Saint Quentionis, beating CHENG Hsien-Tzu and Daniela MONTEIRO-DODEAN. Third Bursa`s point was secured by actual individual European champion HU Melek, against MONTEIRO-DODEAN in the opener. Britt EERLAND won unique point for the host side, overcoming Yana NOSKOVA in straight games.
