European Youth Top 10 in Worcester

The defeat in the final of the European Youth Championships in Portugal haunted Romania’s Cristian PLETEA for weeks, but he took the best from the fall and came back stronger. The most anticipated match at the European Youth Top 10 in Worcester, the duel in Junior Singles between PLETEA and European champion Ioannis SGOUROPOULOS of Greece concluded in favor of Romania’s player after only four games. Third is Bastien REMBERT of France, the only player who beat PLETEA in England.

“Everybody had their opinion after the final. My head was full of advices, opinions what I should do…I also watched that match for maybe 50 times. I studied every stroke, every point. I gathered coaches, we all analyzed what happened. I was down, but I learned from that fall. I came back stronger. I had more experience, I learned so much,” said PLETEA who plays for L.P.S.N. Rotaru Constanta.

He took few days off and continued to work. He was a man on mission.

“I did not care about pain in my legs. I was 4 or 5 hours in the hall every day. I trained like I am possessed. I wanted to be ready for this,” admitted Cristian. “I felt bed few days, but I did not let negativity took the best of me. I started to think positive. I was also surrounded by the people who are big experts and who gave me good advices. I have to thank my coaches FILIMON, IONUT, IONASCU. Not only them, I have to thank my family supported me and a man who is like father to me, my great support in life and game STELIAN.”

In Worcester PLETEA suffered by the hands of Bastien REMBERT of France.

“I shook me up at the beginning, but my coach told me it is not the end of the road. He told me I could win at the end. I cleared my head from the bad thoughts and kept on fighting.”
