The best player of reigning TTCLM champion AS PONTOISE CERGY comments recent draw for the next season

Recently held draw for the 2016/17 Table Tennis Champions League Men put into the Group B four ambitious teams: 2012 TTCLM runner-up UMMC (Russia), double TTCLM winner (2014, 2016) and actual champion AS PONTOISE CERGY (France), 2015 ETTU Cup runner-up OLIMPIA UNIA GRUDZIADZ (Poland) and 2016 TTCLM runner-up ESLOVS AI BORDTENNIS (Sweden). Polish champion stressed on its website that this group deserves to be named as “Group of Death”. We asked leading player of the champion and the one with the best individual score (16-4) in the previous season, Marcos FREITAS to comment the draw…

“Our group is very strong and I would say that is perhaps the strongest of all. I think every team can qualify and so it’s important to have a good start in the first ECL games”.

Current no. 8 seed AS PONTOISE CERGY beat two giants on its way to the title last season, ten times TTCLM champion BORUSSIA DUSSELDORF in the quarter-final and triple winner in last five seasons FAKEL GAZPROMA ORENBURG in the semi-final. Silver medalist of Men`s Singles event at the 2015 ITTF LIEBHERR European Championships, Marcos FREITAS defeated among others Dimitrij OVTCHAROV (Orenburg), Vladimir SAMSONOV (Orenburg), Timo BOLL (Borussia Dusseldorf) and XU Hui (Eslovs). Hence his self-confidence must be on the highest possible level...

“We are the European champions and we want to defend our title”, pointed out Portuguese player, world`s no. 12.
